RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Rasmus Rissanen.
Rissanen made his NHL debut in March of last season, appearing in six games for the Hurricanes before an MCL injury knocked him out for the remainder of the season. With a full offseason to recover, the 23-year-old is reported to be back to full health and was inked to a one-year, two-way contract with the ‘Canes in July. Rissanen is expected to challenge for a regular role on the Hurricanes' blue line during training camp, and will battle the likes of fellow young blueliners Michal Jordan, Ryan Murphy, Noah Hanifin, and Haydn Fleury for a spot on the Canes’ third defensive pairing.
Rissanen is a strong defender, but the Finn doesn't pack enough punch on offense to warrant future consideration in the fantasy hockey realm. However, his signing a three-year, entry-level deal with Carolina this past offseason is a clear indication that he's well on his way to earning a more prominent role in the NHL on the heels of two campaigns with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL.
