Stuart Percy

Percy acquitted himself well in the AHL at the end of 2012-13, delivering a goal and two assists in four games with the Marlies. He's a calm, collected and cerebral defender with untapped offensive upside. He'll never be an offensive stud, but instead a good all-round, top-four guy who'll see second-unit power play time. Keeper leaguers should watch and wait ... unless there's a major Leafs' fan in your league. If so, make a late-round play on Percy and then trade him for more than he's worth. Leafs' fans almost always overrate (and thus overpay) for their boys.

Percy missed half of last season with the Mississauga St. Mike's Majors due to a concussion and a knee injury, but was promoted to the AHL Toronto Marlies at season's end any way. It seems peculiar, but the kid excelled in the A. He has another year of junior eligibility, so that's where he'll be this year. However, there are lots of things to like about Percy, particularly his speed, calm and skill. Could he be another Jake Gardiner? Maybe. Keeper leaguers need to take note -- it's not hard to imagine a Percy-Gardiner pairing in several years patrolling the Air Canada Centre.

This guy is as low-maintenance as they come. His own zone play is almost flawless and his skating and first-pass skills are already strong. His weak spot is his point shot but that can be fixed with practice and a pail of pucks. The kid grew up a Leafs fan -- he grew up in nearby Oakville -- so being one of the Buds' first rounders (25th overall) fulfiled a lifelong dream. His stock rose all season long playing for the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors (he was so good on that squad that he finished plus-50) to the point where he eventually earned a spot on the Memorial Cup all-star squad alongside Nathan Beaulieu. He projects as a smart top pairing blueliner who might just give you 30-35 points some day.
