RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Mike Halmo.
Halmo would be a perfect fit for the fourth line, but the Isles already have one of the best checking line trios in the business. He is a high-energy wing who is willing to do just about anything to help his team win. Does he have the upside to be more than that? Unfortunately not. He’s a role player who has value, but probably not for the Islanders.
With all the injuries the Islanders had last season, Halmo actually played 20 games, notching a goal. He will begin this season once again in the AHL where he will also once again, need an injury or five to get called up.
In 51 games over two seasons for Bridgeport of the AHL, Halmo has six goals and 15 points. Although once considered a solid prospect, Halmo is starting to look like a career minor leaguer.
Halmo had a pretty good run with the OHL's Owen Sound, scoring 60 goals in his last two seasons there, before signing with the Islanders. He will start the season in the AHL, where he posted one point in five games last year, but may Halmo best be known his being suspended last March after hitting future top overall pilck Nail Yakupov in the head. Halmo is not a top prospect for the Isles and could play the entire season with Bridgeport.
