RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Stefan Matteau.
Matteau saw 17 games in the NHL before the Devils returned him to Blainsville of the QMJHL, registering three points and seeing scant ice time. He's a budding power forward with an offensive skill set the Devils hope will show up sooner than later. He'll have a shot to make the team out of training camp, but how much of an impact he'll have remains to be seen. He's still a project at this point in his career, albeit one with much potential.
With a last name that sends shivers down the spine of the entire New Jersey fan base, Matteau was selected as the club's first-round pick in this past June's draft. More famous presently for being the son of former Ranger Stephane Matteau, the man who scored the Game 7, overtime-winning goal in the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals against New Jersey, Stefan showed a bit of sandpaper and grit to his junior tenure with the US National Development team, earning 93 penalty minutes and 10 points over 18 games last year. Still a ways from the NHL, Matteau projects as a two-way forward once he reaches the NHL.
