Closer Watch
Angels – Ernesto Frieri cleaned up in the ninth Thursday, working around a walk and striking out a batter in yet another scoreless inning, running his streak to 25.1 unblemished innings to start the season. Scott Downs has been working ninth innings here and there, but it looks like this timeshare is about 80 percent Frieri's.
Kansas City – Word is that Jonathan Broxton is on the block, which makes shares of Greg Holland just that much more interesting going forward. There are a host of other guys the Royals could employ, but Holland and Aaron Crow seem the most natural choices. Crow's been blown up a couple times in a row, though, so he'll have to get back in his manager's good graces first before he gets a job. For now, Broxton's cleaning up; he saved his 21st on Thursday.
Pirates – Joel Hanrahan struggled through the ninth Thursday, walking a couple Astros before escaping the jam for his 22nd save. That's three straight iffy outings for Hanrahan – all without a strikeout, suggesting that he may be feeling a bit overworked right now.
Giants – Santiago Casilla blew his fourth save Thursday, allowing two runs (one earned) in the bottom of the ninth to take the loss. He's now blown three out of his last four save chances, and with his lack of prior experience finishing games, don't be surprised if any further struggles result in the ascent of Sergio Romo to the closer's role.

Recommended Pickup
Carlos Peguero, OF, SEA – For the kind of riverboat gambler who wants to invest in the Seattle offense, Peguero certainly offers some intriguing power-hitting upside. Though he hit just .196 in a limited major-league sample last year, Peguero's had a destructive season in Triple-A, smashing 18 homers and OPSing 1.002. At 25, he's teetering toward the edge of what you might call a prospect, but he's got the hit tool the Mariners need and could find his way into the lineup often with some nice early returns.
