Closer Watch - A closer look at intriguing ninth-inning situations (check out our Closer Grid with the link to the left).

Houston – Save situations have not been aplenty in Houston lately. An opportunity finally presented itself for newly anointed closer Wilton Lopez and he converted successfully on Saturday.

Minnesota – We touched on the battle between Glen Perkins and Jared Burton yesterday. Burton earned Saturday's save.

Oakland – Ryan Cook's numbers this season look very good, but he blew a second save opportunity in a row on Saturday and made it four of his last five. It seems he still has some job security for now, but that could easily change.

Brett Jackson, OF, and Josh Vitters, 3B, CHC – The Cubs have decided the future is now and called up former first round picks Jackson and Vitters. Jackson has 20/20 potential, but he is a strikeout machine and could easily struggle, especially at first, against MLB pitching. Vitters was the most advanced high school hitting prospect back in 2007, but it has taken him five years to reach the big leagues and he is no longer the top prospect he once was. Jackson started Sunday's game at the No. 2 spot in the order, while Vitters was on the bench. The Cubs will likely give both of them a good chunk of playing time over the remainder of the season.
