Closer Watch

Cubs - Kyuji Fujikawa struggled with his location in Friday's appearance with the Giants, coughing up a 2-0 lead and taking a blown save in the process. Fortunately for his owners, he was credited with the win when the Cubs rallied for a walk-off victory in the bottom of the frame. Wet conditions may have impacted Fujikawa's command, and he's likely unavailable to pitch Saturday after throwing 30 pitches in Friday's appearance. Manager Dale Sveum confirmed that Fujikawa will remain the team's closer despite his poor showing Friday afternoon. For now, Carlos Marmol remains the next-in-line option, which likely affords Fujikawa a decent amount of leash.

Giants - Sergio Romo made an appearance for the seventh time in 11 days Friday and suffered his first blown save of the season in the process. In addition to dealing with the aforementioned wet conditions at Wrigley Field, Romo had to warm up quickly with the Giants creating a save opportunity in the top half of the frame. It's possible that his heavy workload early on will lead to a day off Saturday, although the Giants have not provided any indication of having such a plan at this time.

Recommended Pickup

Ted Lilly, SP, LAD - It's a speculative thought process here, but Lilly seems to make more sense as the temporary replacement for Zack Greinke than teammate Chris Capuano. Lilly is still working his way back from a shoulder injury on a rehab assignment at Triple-A, but considering that he is stretched out at the present time and Capuano has been making shorter relief appearances with the Dodgers thus far, it would make more sense logistically for Lilly to slot into Greinke's place in the rotation. Last season, Lilly carried a 3.14 ERA and 1.130 WHIP over eight starts despite a disappointing 31:19 K:BB. His last full season with the Dodgers in 2011 yielded a 3.97 ERA and 1.157 WHIP with a 158:51 K:BB over 192.2 innings. Considering the makeup of the current Dodgers squad, Lilly could be a nice source of wins and steady ratios if he does in fact receive Greinke's spot.
