Closer Watch
Tigers – Detroit acquired Astros closer Jose Veras on Monday, but he'll likely settle into a setup role in front of Joaquin Benoit. Hard to imagine the Tigers will install him as closer unless circumstances change, although they sure did endure the similarly high-WHIP ways of Jose Valverde in that role for a long time.
Astros – And here we have a vacancy. Setup man Jose Cisnero is the favorite to be the new mediocre closer in Houston, and there's an outside shot Wesley Wright gets a chance. Even with this opportunity, there's not a lot of upside in that pen right now.
Pirates – Jason Grilli is hoping to be back late in the season, which means Mark Melancon can take your fantasy team a long way (relatively speaking) in the interim.
Angels – Ernesto Frieri blew just his third save of the year Monday, but the implosion pushed his ERA up to an unimpressive 4.06 and his WHIP up to 1.31. He's been blown up in two of his last three outings, giving up a total of seven runs in two innings of work, but there's no one who looks too likely to steal the job from him.

Recommended Pickup
Juan Lagares, OF, NYM – Largely ignored in fantasy circles, Lagares has finally taken over center field full time for the Mets, but mostly on the strength of his defense, where he's looked like Andruw Jones lite. The rookie's sure not Jones at the plate, but a slow start to his MLB career has hidden a track record of hitting in the minors – Lagares was hitting .346 with a .929 OPS in 17 games for Triple-A Vegas before being called up this year, and two years ago he hit .349 across two levels with nine homers and 15 steals in 120 games. Most importantly, he's been hot lately, hitting .362 in July with a homer and a couple steals. Deeper and NL-only leaguers can certainly find a use for his services.
Other Recent Recommendations: Tony Cingrani, David Lough, Mark Melancon, Brandon Beachy, Wily Peralta
