Closer Watch

San Diego Padres - Huston Street needed eight pitches to retire the side in order Friday against the Giants, earning the save to make him a perfect 23-for-23 in save opportunities this season. In fact, he's blown one save since May 12, 2013. The right-hander has dominated to the tune of a 0.87 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 32:7 K:BB through 31 innings, as he's been one of the lone bright spots for the Padres. Contending teams are surely calling to inquire about Street, and if a deal gets done, it could open the door for Joaquin Benoit to see save opportunities. However, Benoit has been outstanding as well (1.26 ERA, 0.70 WHIP) and could also be on the move. In the event both get traded, Alex Torres and Dale Thayer may end up heading a closer committee.

Recommended Pickup
Kolten Wong, 2B, STL - Currently down at Triple-A Memphis rehabbing a shoulder injury, Wong is expected to come off the DL on Sunday and should immediately push Mark Ellis back to the short end of a platoon at second base. Wong struggled to begin the year, posting a .221/.264/.265 batting line in April, but quickly turned things around in the minors and ended up earning NL Rookie of the Month honors for May despite spending half of the month with Memphis. There was some concern that his shoulder injury was serious, but an MRI revealed just a bruise, and the 23-year-old was able to return to active competition just 10 days after hitting the DL. That initial concern, combined with the fact that Wong typically sits against lefties, likely led to some owners dropping him, so it's at least worth checking to see if the former first-round pick is available in your league.
