Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

The rivalry between the Bruins and Canadiens loses some intrigue with Carey Price sidelined. So perhaps, the battle of Cole Harbour between Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon warrants the attention Wednesday.

Additionally, San Jose looks to curb their four-game losing streak against the Oilers, who have won their past three contests. The night cap features the Canucks hosting the Rangers.

GOALIE

Alex Stalock, SJ at EDM ($26) - Pegging the Sharks is difficult, as they've now lost four straight games following a 7-1 stretch, including a winnable game Tuesday against Calgary. Look for San Jose to bounce back Wednesday. Stalock relieved No. 1 Martin Jones ($34) on Tuesday, so the Sharks might roll back to Jones, who is also a strong play. While Edmonton has won three consecutive games, they're averaging just 2.0 goals per game over their past five.

Goalie to avoid:

Ryan Miller, VAN vs. NYR ($33) - Miller played well against Buffalo on Monday, and he rewarded those who took the speculative dice roll. The Rangers present a completely different test Wednesday, though. The six-point win bonus will be tough to secure with Vancouver struggling to score (1.6 goals per game over their past five), and New York allowing just 2.0 goals per game this season.

CENTER

Logan Couture, SJ at EDM ($19) - Take the injury discount and run. Couture returned Tuesday following a lengthy absence that limited him to just three games early in the season. The pivot found the score sheet Tuesday, and he is an integral part of the No. 1 power-play unit and should take advantage of a favorable matchup Wednesday. Edmonton is allowing 2.93 goals per game this season, after all.

Center to avoid:

Patrice Bergeron, BOS at MON ($26) - The knock here is the cap hit and matchup. Bergeron has been as consistent as any player in the league this season with 25 points, including eight goals, through 26 games, but with Montreal allowing just 2.07 goals per game at home this season, a multi-point effort against the Habs is a tall order. Bergeron is also scoring at a career-best pace, which is cause for concern at his hefty salary.

WINGS

Chris Kunitz, PIT at COL ($17) - With a goal and five helpers over his past three games, Kunitz is finding his form and is locked into a prime role on the No. 1 power-play unit (and with Sidney Crosby at even strength). While Colorado has played well of late, especially defensively with just 2.2 goals allowed per game over their past five, the Aves have allowed 3.36 goals per game at home.

Chris Kreider, NYR at VAN ($14) - The cap hit reflects the difficult start to the season, but the skills and upside don't match the cost. Kreider found the score sheet last time out, and he is expected to skate with Rick Nash and Oscar Lindberg at even strength again Wednesday. The linemates are important here, too, as Nash and Kreider have combined for a 3.57 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations dating back to the beginning of the 2013 season.

Wing to avoid:

Frank Vatrano, BOS at MON ($18) - The young winger has found the score sheet in just two of his 12 games this season, and he has been deployed in a bottom-six role of late. Plus, while talented, Vatrano has only played 27 games of professional hockey.

DEFENSEMEN

Andrei Markov, MON vs. BOS ($16) - The final stat line is buoyed by Markov's five-point showing in late October, but he remains a high-floor option given his shot volume and willingness to block shots. He averages 1.82 blocked shots and 1.32 shots per games. He is back with the No. 1 power-play unit, too, and Boston is killing at just 78.0 percentage.

Dan Boyle, NYR at VAN ($13) - Boyle's role has increased over the past four games, and he is seeing looks with the No. 1 power-play unit. He has an assist, seven shots and 10 blocked shots during the span with a plus-2 rating and an average of 22:05 minutes on the ice. All said, the veteran is finding multiple avenues to returning fantasy points at a cap-friendly salary.

Defenseman to avoid:

Kris Letang, PIT at COL ($24) - Injuries have derailed Letang throughout his career, and while he is expected to return from a two-game absence Wednesday, he is an extremely risky grab in daily contests. Letang has a upside-killing minus-14 rating this season, and he has just 14 points through 24 games, which is his worst points-per-game mark since the 2009-10 season.
