Yahoo DFS Hockey: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

The eight evening games are included in the main daily contests at Yahoo! on Saturday.

Taking a speculative stab with a trio of Penguins could provide the cap relief and upside to stack the rest of your lineup.

The Kings, Islanders and Flyers are all eyeing high-end matchups, and anytime Dallas takes the ice, they're worth a long look.

GOALIE

Antti Niemi, DAL vs. MTL ($31) - With the Canadiens reeling, Niemi presents nice value at home. Montreal has lost six of their past seven with just 11 goals during that span. While the Stars aren't defensive juggernauts, they boast a 12-4 home record and average 3.56 goals per game in Big D. Look for the win kickback to mitigate any pucks finding the back of the net. Plus, Dallas will be looking to avenge their home loss Thursday. Should Kari Lehtonen ($31) receive the starting nod, he is equally serviceable.

Matt Murray, PIT vs. CAR ($20) - Murray will make his NHL debut after a sterling run in the American Hockey League, and the cap hit makes him a slam-dunk start in Yahoo!'s daily contests. Both teams enter on the wrong end of back-to-back games, and Pittsburgh is in dire need of a slump-busting showing, especially with losses in eight of their past 10 outings.

Goalie to avoid:

Anders Nilsson, EDM at COL ($31) - While the backstop is a game removed from a five-game winning streak, he has allowed 11 goals over his past three games, and the Avalanche are hitting their stride. Colorado averages 3.0 goals per game at home this season, and the Oilers are playing their fourth road game of the week. With the goalie option available Saturday, there is no need to push the cute envelope with Nilsson.

CENTER

Sidney Crosby, PIT vs. CAR ($21) - Continuing with the must-win theme surrounding the Penguins, Crosby had two helpers Friday, and his cap hit is low enough to land him in value territory Saturday. Carolina has failed consecutive tests and has allowed 3.4 goals per game over their past five outings. Plus, Eddie Lack is likely donning the crease, and he has a .876 save percentage and 3.34 goals-against average this season.

Center to avoid:

Leon Draisaitl, EDM at COL ($21) - Inconsistency should be built into your expectations with young players, and the highs are often less telling than the lows. Draisaitl has just two shots, an assist and a minus-2 rating over his past three games, and he goes up against a scorching-hot Semyon Varlamov on Saturday. Draisaitl is also not far removed from a six-game stretch when he scored a single goal.

WING

Marian Gaborik, LA at TOR ($19) - The veteran has returned huge value in three of his past four outings thanks to two goals, an assist, a plus-5 rating and 16 shots on goal. The matchup is ripe for another strong showing Saturday, too. Toronto is a bottom-three team in the league with a serious issue in the blue paint -- Jonathan Bernier has an .883 save percentage and a 3.46 goals-against average.

Anders Lee, NYI at ARI ($15) - With Kyle Okposo out, Lee should benefit from running alongside John Tavares. Lee has had an extremely disappointing season after scoring 27 goals last year, and his salary reflects it. Arizona is allowing the second-most goals per game this season, too.

Conor Sheary, PIT vs. CAR ($12) - New head coach Mike Sullivan has pumped Sheary's tires and has him riding on Crosby's flank. The rookie responded Friday with a goal and a helper, and with a contest-minimum salary, the cap relief he provides outweighs any risk in rolling out Sheary on Saturday.

Wing to avoid:

James van Riemsdyk, TOR vs. LA ($21) - There is a high floor for van Riemsdyk due to his recent uptick in shot volume, as he has fired 25 pucks on net over his past four games. However, shot repression and puck possession are strengths of Los Angeles, which should limit van Riemsdyk's upside Saturday.

DEFENSEMAN

Jake Muzzin, LA at TOR ($19) - Muzzin's cross-category production and prime matchup make him an excellent option Saturday. He has two goals and an assist over his past four outings with a plus-4 rating, seven shots on goal and five blocked shots, and Muzzin has six points through eight games this month.

Defenseman to avoid:

P.K. Subban, MTL at DAL ($20) - The rearguard is a minus-4 over his past two outings, and he hasn't hit 10.0 fantasy points in 10 games. Dallas usually has some leaks defensively, so Subban finding the score sheet isn't out of the question, but neither is finishing with an upside-crushing minus-rating. The Stars are averaging 3.56 goals per game in their barn, after all.
