Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

It is another busy night in the National Hockey League, and the Sabres, Red Wings, Maple Leafs, Predators, Avalanche and Sharks are all playing their second game in consecutive nights.

Two Central Division matchups are the marquee games of the evening with Minnesota hosting Chicago and Nashville visiting Dallas. Also, look for San Jose, Florida, St. Louis and Pittsburgh to take care of business in favorable matchups.

Here are your picks, pans and values for Tuesday's slate.

GOALIE

Roberto Luongo, FLA vs. TOR ($31) - The Maple Leafs have scored two goals or fewer in each of their past six road games, including just one goal through their past three. Plus, Toronto is playing their second away game in consecutive nights. Luongo is also in fine form after winning back-to-back road starts against the Lightning and Bruins, including saving 67 of 70 shots. This salary is a steal, too.

James Reimer, SJ at VAN ($29) - Here is another solid price point to target. Typically, this would be a potential letdown spot for San Jose, after the Sharks beat the Kings 5-2 Monday. However, Vancouver has lost eight consecutive games and scored just seven goals during the span, including being shut out in four of those outings. Through five starts with San Jose, Reimer has a respectable .920 save percentage and 2.03 goals-against average.

Player to avoid:

Devan Dubnyk, MIN vs. CHI ($38) - With all the favorable matchups on the schedule and lower-priced goalies with upside, there is little reason to risk starting Dubnyk against Chicago. It is a divisional game and both teams need to win. Dubnyk does have contrarian appeal because of his form (five straight wins with a .958 save percentage and a 1.36 goals-against average), but Chicago has also won three consecutive road games with 11 goals scored.

CENTER

John Tavares, NYI vs. CAR ($21) - It has been a disappointing season for Tavares, and he hasn't posted a multi-point game since Feb. 23. However, he is an elite offensive talent and had six shot attempts against Carolina on Saturday. Look for him to have a solid showing on home ice against the Hurricanes on Tuesday. Carolina has also lost six of its past eight games, and Tavares' salary is easily accommodated.

Player to avoid:

Logan Couture, SJ at VAN ($19) - The pivot has just two assists through his past 10 games with a minus-6 rating, so even in a ripe matchup, it is difficult to rely on him. Couture has been skating with Melker Karlsson and Joonas Donskoi, and neither winger are anything more than mediocre scorers capable of chipping in tertiary offensive numbers, at best.

WING

Jonathan Huberdeau, FLA vs. TOR ($20) - Over 10 games since returning from an upper-body injury, Huberdeau has 11 points and 24 shots on net. He also endured a three-game point drought during the stretch, but Huberdeau also has two goals and an assist in his past two outings, so he is back on track. Toronto presents a great matchup after losing a 3-0 road game Monday.

Alexander Steen, STL vs. COL ($16) - A high-risk, high-reward start, Steen has been out since Feb. 20, but his low salary also reflects his lengthy absence. He'll return to a familiar line with David Backes and Patrik Berglund and role with the No. 1 power-play unit. Colorado is on the wrong end of back-to-back road games, too. Steen won't be this cheap for long.

Player to avoid:

Gabriel Landeskog, COL at STL ($20) - The Avalanche pulled off an upset Monday, but they land in another daunting matchup against St. Louis on Tuesday. The Blues haven't allowed a goal in four consecutive games, and now they're fully healthy for the first time all season. Landeskog is in solid form with 12 points through his past 14 games, but he also will match up with the top defenders from a shut-down system Tuesday.

DEFENSE

Trevor Daley, PIT vs. BUF ($18) - Since Olli Maatta was lost to injury two games ago, Daley has averaged 27:57 of ice time with 3:10 of the power-play variety. Daley has an assist in each of those outings with a plus-3 rating, five shots and six blocked shots. He's a high-floor option in a solid matchup at home with tremendous upside given his expanded role in all situations.

Aaron Ekblad, FLA vs. TOR ($14) - A five-game point drought has Ekblad's salary way down, but the sophomore is an excellent source of cap relief Tuesday. As mentioned, Toronto checks out as a solid group to pick on, and Ekblad plays north of 24 minutes per night and rolls with the No. 1 power-play unit. Look for his peripheral statistics to return value, and a score sheet appearance would push Ekblad well into profit territory.

Player to avoid:

Zach Bogosian, BUF at PIT ($21) - Don't fret fading the rising defenseman Tuesday. He has returned a minus-4 rating without a point over his past four games, and this is a tough matchup with Pittsburgh averaging four goals per game through its past five outings. Bogosian was a fantasy darling when his salary hovered in the low-to-mid teens, but he's a little pricey now.
