Yahoo DFS Hockey: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

GOALIE

Pekka Rinne, NSH vs. SJ ($36) - While Game 5 was rough for Rinne and the Predators on the road, expect the veteran goaltender to bounce back at home in Game 6. He has won three straight starts at Bridgestone Arena dating to the Anaheim series, and is unbeaten at that venue against the Sharks since 2011. History is on Rinne's side as he tries to force a Game 7 for the second straight series.

Goalie to Avoid:

Martin Jones, SJ at NSH ($33) - Jones is winless in Nashville this series, but lacks the cheapness of the other road team's goaltenders. He should be worth it if the Sharks are able to steal a win, but the desperate Predators proved last round that they don't go down easily.

CENTER

Cody Eakin, DAL at STL ($15) - It's tough to find better value than a first-line center that plays alongside Jamie Benn for just $15. Eakin is no Tyler Seguin, but he has dished out seven helpers in 11 games this postseason to go with his Game 4 overtime winner. His prominent role in the lineup alone makes Eakin a can't-miss value at this price.

Center to Avoid:

Jason Spezza, DAL at STL ($29) - Spezza's $29 price is outrageously high given that the veteran center is averaging just 3.8 fantasy points per game in this series. Even doubling that average would make him a very questionable investment at his price.

WING

James Neal, NSH vs. SJ ($24) - Neal has finally gotten going after a slow start to the playoffs, registering two goals and two assists during his three-game point streak. The Predators will need another big game from their second-leading regular-season goal-scorer if they hope to keep their season alive, and the two-way winger is likely to answer the call on both ends judging by his plus-4 rating and 13 shots over the last three games along with the aforementioned scoring.

Troy Brouwer, STL vs. DAL ($22) -
Brouwer has been vital to St. Louis' success in this series, totaling three goals and two assists through five games after also scoring in Game 7 against the Blackhawks. Things are looking up even further for the power forward now that center Paul Stastny has begun rounding into form, as that development should only enhance the scoring prowess of their line with Alexander Steen. With the Blues offense averaging 4.0 goals per game in their last four, most of their offensively inclined players make for solid options at the moment.

Wings to Avoid:

Ales Hemsky, DAL at STL ($15) - Hemsky has been an absolute non-factor, with no points and a minus-4 rating since picking up an assist in Game 1. Those looking to buy low in hopes of a reversion to his moderately productive Round 1 form likely will be left disappointed based on his utter inability to get anything going lately.

Jaden Schwartz, STL vs. DAL ($25) -
Schwartz is yet to find the back of the net in this series, and getting by solely on assists is tough to do at $25. With the Blues clicking offensively in this series, they offer a variety of more sensible alternatives up and down the lineup.

DEFENSE

Alex Pietrangelo, STL vs. DAL ($24) - Pietrangelo has been contributing even with a lack of scoring, using a plus-5 rating to top 9.0 fantasy points twice in the last three games despite totaling just a single assist over that span. The talented blueliner hasn't made much of an impact offensively yet, but that's bound to change given his usual integral role in the Blues offense and how poorly Dallas has defended on the other end. Even if Pietrangelo once again fails to get it going, his strong all-around ability provides a high floor.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic, SJ at NSH ($23) -
Vlasic has been the model of consistency, piling up at least 7.0 fantasy points in seven straight games. His ability to compile high shot and block totals has turned the veteran into a fantasy asset who isn't reliant on getting on the scoresheet, which works out since he's yet to score a goal this postseason. Much like with Alex Pietrangelo, Vlasic's high floor makes him a solid building block on the blue line.

Defenseman to Avoid:

John Klingberg, DAL at STL ($19) - Klingberg is an offensive-minded defenseman who isn't getting on the scoresheet. That by definition sounds problematic, which is why it should come as no surprise that he has managed a paltry 3.6 fantasy points per game in this series. Don't expect a trend that has built itself up over a five-game sample size to suddenly reverse course.
