DraftKings NHL: Sunday Values

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Values

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

It's a rare eight-game Sunday in the NHL, with the action starting at 3:00 ET. Here are some values and low-priced fliers to consider while filling out your DraftKings lineups.

GOALIE

Connor Hellebuyck, WPG vs. BUF ($7,600): Since entering the league, Hellebuyck has the second-highest save percentage (.938) among goalies with at least 1,000 minutes at five-on-five. He's also coming off his best start of the season, and the Sabres are averaging just 2.43 goals per game. At this salary, Hellebuyck is an excellent flier with significant upside given his track record.

CENTER

Victor Rask, CAR vs. PHI ($5,600): Now in his third season, Rask is well on his way to improving his point total for the second consecutive year with five assists and four goals through seven games. Additionally, he's the top offensive pivot in all situations and averaging 18:13 per game with 2:30 of power-play time. To help matters further, Philadelphia is playing its second game in consecutive nights after facing rival Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Leon Draisaitl, EDM vs. OTT ($5,200): After registering a point in each of the first four games of the season, Draisaitl is mired in a four-game drought with just seven shots on net. This is a slump-busting matchup, though, as Ottawa allowed the most goals per road game last year (3.32) and hasn't improved to start 2016-17 (3.57 overall). Go ahead and view Draisaitl as an against-the-grain option with upside.

WINGER

Marcus Johansson, WAS at CGY ($4,300): The move

Go ahead and view Draisaitl as an against-the-grain option with upside.

WINGER

Marcus Johansson, WAS at CGY ($4,300): The move to Evgeny Kuznetsov's flank was an encouraging line swap that prompted Johansson to go off for two goals and an assist Saturday. While it might be difficult for Johansson to post a repeat performance, he and Kuznetsov have combined for a solid 2.25 goals-for per 60 minutes at five-on-five dating back to the beginning of last season.

Jesse Puljujarvi, EDM vs. OTT ($4,200): This is a spot for a breakout game from the talented rookie. Puljujarvi has been eased into action thus far, including being a healthy scratch twice, but he has seven shots through his past three games and has upside in this cushy matchup. Ottawa has allowed a hefty 3.57 goals per game to start 2016-17, after all – not to mention the fact that there's a good chance they're starting third-stringer Chris Driedger in this one.

Zach Hyman, TOR at NYI ($3,400): As the third wheel alongside Auston Matthews and William Nylander, Hyman hasn't exactly followed their lead with just a single assist this year. Still, he's registered multiple shots in each of his last seven games and can mitigate the salary hit of Matthews or Nylander as a low-priced mini stack. Among trios with at least 70 minutes of ice time, the Matthews-Nylander-Hyman line ranks third in CorsiFor percentage (58.3) and ScoringChancesFor percentage (61.7).

DEFENSE

Justin Faulk, CAR vs. PHI ($5,300): This salary is just too low for a player with huge upside in a potentially soft matchup. Faulk has posted 1.47 points per 60 minutes over the past three years, which ranks 21st in the league among defensemen with at least 2,500 minutes.

Travis Hamonic, NYI vs. TOR ($3,600): Coming off his best game of the season (10.0 DraftKings points), Hamonic has a great chance to stay hot in a soft matchup. The Maple Leafs have allowed 3.63 goals per game this season and are playing their second road game in consecutive nights. Hamonic is also a high-floor option at this salary because he averaged 1.9 shots and 1.8 blocked shots per game over the previous three years.
