DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

There are six Sunday games on the NHL schedule, and the action starts at 5:00 p.m. ET with Edmonton at Detroit and Colorado at St. Louis. Here are a handful of players to consider while assembling your DraftKings lineups today:

GOALIE

Jake Allen, STL vs. COL ($7,700): Home-road splits aren't etched in stone as a sign of success or failure, but Allen boasts a .960 save percentage and 0.97 GAA through his three home starts this year. Additionally, his strong play at Scottrade Center has long legs with Allen boasting a 31-15-3 record , a .922 save percentage, a 1.97 GAA and five shutouts at home last year. Plus, Colorado has averaged a 29th-ranked 2.1 goals per game and a 25th-ranked 19.19 scoring chances per 60 minutes this season.

CENTER

Mark Scheifele, WPG at NYR ($7,100): This game has track-meet potential, and Scheifele has emerged as one of the best scorers in the league dating back to the middle of last season. He has posted 27 goals and 60 points over his past 58 games, after all. Additionally, Scheifele's significant role (21:18 per game) and high-shot volume (2.83 shots per game) present a nice fantasy floor for his offense to build on.

Kevin Hayes, NYR vs. WPG ($3,600): While his red-hot stretch -- three goals and five assists over his past four games -- isn't predictive of future success, Hayes' salary is too low to ignore. He should find favorable matchups throughout the game with Winnipeg lacking

Kevin Hayes, NYR vs. WPG ($3,600): While his red-hot stretch -- three goals and five assists over his past four games -- isn't predictive of future success, Hayes' salary is too low to ignore. He should find favorable matchups throughout the game with Winnipeg lacking depth and dealing with injuries. Winnipeg is also allowing 3.0 goals per game and 30.96 scoring chances per 60 minutes this season.

WING

Rickard Rakell, ANA vs. CGY ($5,800): After allowing the second most road goals per game in the league last season, Calgary has surrendered 3.54 goals per game to start this year and is in the final leg of a four-game road trip. The Flames lost 5-0 to the Kings on Saturday, too. Rakell has made up for lost time with six points -- three goals -- through his first three games and averaged 18:12 of ice time with 2:52 of power-play time. Rakell's 11 shots over the past two games highlight his solid floor, too.

Robby Fabbri, STL vs. COL ($4,200): Mired in a six-game point drought, Fabbri (like many Blues) is eyeing positive regression given his 93.1 PDO. He's also registered 19 shots without scoring a goal and is coming off a game with 19:04 (3:51 of power-play time). While more of a speculative flier, Fabbri's role and talent have ample upside at this salary.

Nic Petan, WPG at NYR ($2,500): After spending most of his ice time with Blake Wheeler and Kyle Conner on Friday against Detroit, Petan is worth a look at minimum price. You'll have to do your due diligence before game time to ensure he's in the lineup and playing above the fourth line, but as a source of cap relief, Petan brings nice offensive upside. He's scored 37 points through 56 career AHL games.

DEFENSE

Kevin Shattenkirk, STL vs. COL ($5,100): There is a little risk that Shattenkirk will fall below value because he his shot volume (1.83 per game) is down, and he doesn't block many shots (0.92 per game). However, with the fourth-best points per 60 minutes (1.85) among defenseman with at least 3,000 minutes dating back to the 2014-15 season, you're not targeting Shattenkirk for his supporting statistics. Additionally, the risk is significantly mitigated by this cushy salary and Shattenkirk's 91.6 PDO.

Brady Skjei, NYR vs. WPG ($3,000): Another low-priced flier finding the scoresheet frequently of late, Skjei has a four-game assist streak with five total. Additionally, he owns a 1.07 points per 60 minutes at five-on-five, which ranks 29th among all defenseman with at least 100 minutes. And while his fantasy floor is low (12 shots and nine blocked shots over 12 games), as a source of cap relief attached to the highest-scoring team in the league, it's his upside you're chasing.
