Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

The NHL schedule is packed with 10 games Tuesday. At Yahoo, it's always worth scrolling all the way through the player pool because some solid players can be found at -- or near -- minimum price. With that said, here are some targets, fades and values to consider when assembling your lineups.

GOALIE

Henrik Lundqvist, NYR vs. VAN ($38): This is a spot to spend up for a nightminder. Lundqvist grabs the Canucks on the wrong end of consecutive road games, and it will be Vancouver's fifth road contest in seven nights. They entered Monday's game against New York with just eight goals through five road games and losers of eight consecutive games while being outscored 28-10. The Rangers, on the other hand, have won eight of their past nine games, allowing only 17 goals.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Cam Talbot, EDM at PIT ($36): Edmonton is playing its fifth road game in eight nights and grab the defending champions with Talbot sporting an .894 save percentage and a 3.25 GAA through his past three outings. Pittsburgh has won five of six games since Sidney Crosby returned to action and average 4.0 goals per game.

CENTER

Mitch Marner, TOR vs. LOS ($14): The diminutive winger owns a sixth-best 3.42 points per 60 minutes among skaters with at least 100 minutes this year, and he appears more and more comfortable at the highest level with each passing game. Marner has consecutive multi-point showings with eight shots on net, and he's only posted a single power play assist while owning a 97.9 PDO, so there is actually room for more production from the rookie. He should easily return value at this price.

CENTER TO AVOID

Patrice Bergeron, BOS at MON ($25): This is a back-to-back spot for the Bruins, and Bergeron consistently plays against the opposition's best players. Montreal has allowed just nine goals on home ice this season and have a per-game goal differential of 2.29. Bergeron will not only have a difficult time finding the scoresheet, he's in danger of posting negative fantasy points.

WING

Filip Forsberg, NAS vs. OTT ($23): With 59 goals and a 12.2 shooting percentage over the past two seasons, the tallies are coming for Forsberg, and this is a nice buy-low spot for the struggling scorer. He's registered 20 shots on net this season and owns a 96.1 PDO. Additionally, Forsberg has averaged 3:26 per night with the man advantage. Home-road splits should be taken with a grain of salt, but the Sens have allowed 3.24 goals per road game dating back to last season, which is a significant sample size.

Rick Nash, NYR vs. VAN ($20): This salary hasn't caught up to Nash's bounce-back start to the year. He's posted a 21st-ranked 10.86 shots per 60 minutes among skaters with at least 100 minutes at five-on-five and plays a scoring role with an average of 2:23 of power-play time per night. Vancouver also presents an excellent matchup given this will be its fifth road game in seven nights, and the Canucks have allowed 31 goals during their current nine-game losing streak.

WINGERS TO AVOID

David Pastrnak, BOS at MON ($23): As noted, the Canadiens have been stingy at home, and Pastrnak entered Monday's game with an unsustainable 22.2 shooting percentage. With 10 games on the schedule, there are plenty of favorable matchups and values in the player pool to hone in on, so don't fret fading Pastrnak on the second leg of back-to-back games.

Daniel Sedin, VAN at NYR ($19): The veteran winger has scored in consecutive games and recorded eight shots during those contests. This is a daunting matchup, though. The Rangers own the fourth-highest goals for percentage at five-on-five, and the Canucks rank last. With the threat a minus rating next to Sedin's declining offensive output (89th-ranked 1.72 points per 60 minutes dating back to last year), he's not a lineup priority.

DEFENSE

Nick Holden, NYR vs. VAN ($16): The Rangers are the highest-scoring team in the league (4.23 goals per game) and the offense is flowing throughout the lineup. Holden's posted 1.62 points per 60 minutes at five-on-five thus far, which ranks 12th among all defensemen. He's also helped in the plus-minus column (plus-13 rating) and blocked 17 shots. As noted, Vancouver is in a bad schedule spot, too.

Nikita Zaitsev, TOR vs. LOS ($12): At minimum price, Zaitsev presents excellent cap relief and upside. He's settled into a top-pairing role with power-play time and moves the needle across all categories. The Kings play low-event games and are typically viewed as a matchup to avoid. However, Toronto has generated the most scoring chances per 60 minutes (27.18) in the league, so Zaitsev should still have chances to find the scoresheet.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Brent Burns, SAN at WAS ($34): Given the contest-high salary among defenseman and potentially the worst matchup on the schedule, it's difficult to justify spending up for Burns. The Capitals have allowed just 2.04 goals per game (second fewest in the league) and the fourth fewest high-danger scoring chances (8.2) per 60 minutes.

P.K. Subban, NAS vs. OTT ($24): It's been a rough stretch for Subban. He's been a consistent contributor in the supporting statistics with 13 shots and 12 blocked shots over his past six games, but he has just a single assist during that stretch. More concerning though, Subban hasn't been receiving consistent power-play time with the No. 1 unit. Out-producing his salary isn't out of the question, but failing to meet value has been more common this year. At this price point, aiming for a more reliable option is encouraged.
