DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

OK, so here's the scoop about Monday. There is only one game, featuring the Lightning and the Islanders. Instead of asking you to pick players solely from that single game, Monday has been added to Tuesday's schedule. However, if you want to play Monday, even if most of the games are on Tuesday, you have to get your team in before Tampa Bay and New York take the ice. Also, Tampa has games on both Monday and Tuesday, so their Tuesday game against the Red Wings is not included in Monday's contests.

GOALIE

Devan Dubnyk, MIN vs. CGY ($7,900): The Wild are one of the best goal prevention teams in the NHL, which is apparent by Dubnyk's 1.65 GAA. Of course, his .947 save percentage is a big reason for that. The Flames aren't a very good team, having lost four games in a row. Dubnyk has a great chance of picking up a win, and he'll likely play well too.

CENTER

Logan Couture, SAN at CAR ($5,900): Couture only has three goals so far, but considering that he's taken 49 shots on goal and has been a 30 goal scorer in the past, you can expect that total to rise. The Hurricanes are allowing over three goals per game, and they do not have impressive goaltenders. Those are just a couple of the reasons to believe in Couture in this one.

Ryan Johansen, NAS vs. TOR ($5,100): Speaking of teams that allow a lot of goals, the Maple Leafs are giving up 3.6 per game. Johansen only has one goal, but he has six assists and five power-play points. Whether he's lighting the lamp himself, or just dishing out an assist, Johansen and the Predators look likely to score plenty against Toronto.

WING

Taylor Hall, NJD at DAL ($6,700): The Stars just gave up five goals to the Canucks, so no offense is too paltry to make some noise against Dallas. Besides, it's not like Hall has struggled alongside his teammates. He has five goals, seven assists, and a whopping 60 shots on goal. Getting shots on Dallas tends to reap benefits after a while.

Marian Hossa, CHI at WPG ($5,700): You don't want to pay too much attention to streaks, but Hossa has a goal in four straight games, and six points in those four contests. Beyond that, he has 15 points in 15 games this season, so it's not like this is an unexpected hot streak. The Jets aren't a formidable challenge, and Hossa seems like a nice value at this price.

Tyler Toffoli, LOS at COL ($5,300): Semyon Varlamov has a sub-.900 save percentage, and Calvin Pickard has played fairly well but doesn't have much of a track record. Toffoli, meanwhile, scored over 30 goals last season, has 53 shots on goal in 16 games, and is playing more than three minutes a night on the power play. This is a good price to pay for a player with his offensive potential.

DEFENSE

Mark Streit, PHI vs. OTT ($4,500): This is not a knock on the Senators as much as it is recognition of how good Philly's offense has been this season. Despite being 38, Streit still has life left in him. He's playing more than 20 minutes a night and has 10 points, five of those having come on the power-play. Streit is the Flyers' second-best defenseman, and he comes at a notably lower price than Shayne Gostisbehere ($5,900).

Victor Hedman, TAM at NYI ($5,600): Hey, you might as well get someone from Monday's game into your lineup, not that you should only roster Hedman for that reason. He has a good matchup and a nigh impeccable track record. Hedman has 11 points and also 24 blocks, so he will generate value at both ends of the ice.
