This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.
The main contests at DraftKings on Sunday consist of the three evening games beginning at 7 p.m. ET. Here are a handful of selections across multiple price points to consider while assembling your lineups.
GOALIE
Martin Jones, SAN vs. CHI ($7,500): With three consecutive road wins and a .922 save percentage during that span, Jones is now sitting on a .920 save percentage and a 2.10 GAA for the year. He's also a big reason that the Sharks have been one of the NHL's best teams at goal prevention. San Jose grabs Chicago on the wrong end of back-to-back games after the Blackhawks fought an emotional back-and-forth battle with St. Louis on Saturday. This is a letdown spot for Chicago, and Jones is cheap, especially considering his high-end results since joining the Sharks.
CENTER
John Tavares, NYI vs. OTT ($7,000): Ottawa enters on the wrong end of back-to-back games and has allowed the seventh-most scoring chances per 60 minutes (28.31) in the league. Tavares checks out at an affordable salary and has eight goals, 18 points and 58 shots through 19 games at the Barclays Center. The price point doesn't match the star center's third-ranked 2.88 points per 60 minutes among skaters with at least 5,000 minutes over the past four years.
Kevin Hayes, NYR vs. NJD ($5,800): The 24-year-old forward was bound to slow down, but Hayes remains in a top-six role and has averaged 2:22 of power-play time over his last six games. Plus, his 2.48 points per 60 minutes rank 32nd in the league among skaters with at least 500 minutes this season. The Devils have lost five straight and are playing their second road game in consecutive nights, a fact that combines with their 3.22 goals per away contest and 4-11-4 road record to line Hayes and the Rangers up nicely for success.
WING
Joe Pavelski, SAN at CHI ($7,100): The Blackhawks could turn to their third-string goalie, Lars Johansson, Sunday after allowing eight goals over their past two outings. Pavelski remains one of the elite drivers of offense in the league with a ninth-ranked 2.74 points and 12th-ranked 8.84 shots per 60 minutes among skaters with at least 5,000 minutes over the past four years. Also, as noted, this is an ill-timed spot for Chicago.
Anders Lee, NYI vs. OTT ($4,200): It's a situation to monitor, but Lee played the bulk of Friday's game with John Tavares. The duo has combined for a solid 2.81 points per 60 minutes at five-on-five over the past three years, and Lee has exceptional hands. He's also caught fire of late with eight goals, 10 points and 27 shots over his past 12 games. Lee checks out as a solid stack option alongside Tavares to help mitigate the pivot's salary.
Timo Meier, SAN at CHI ($3,000): Anyone looking for a lottery ticket can turn to Meier. The 20-year-old rookie notched nine goals and 15 points through 17 AHL games and scored in his first career NHL game Friday. Meier owns high-end offensive talent and upside, so he's an intriguing bottom-dollar flier in this potentially juicy matchup.
DEFENSE
Erik Karlsson, OTT at NYI ($7,400): Because of the noted soft spot Chicago presents, Brent Burns ($8,400) could be the most popular high-priced defenseman Sunday. However, Karlsson's cross-category production and significantly cheaper salary make him a strong option in his own right. After all, Karlsson already has seven goals, 28 points, 79 shots and 85 blocked shots through 31 games.
Nick Leddy, NYI vs. OTT ($4,400): Although it's been a disappointing start to the season for Leddy (four goals, 13 points and 56 shots through 29 games), his price reflects his underwhelming offensive numbers. He's still skating with the No. 1 power-play unit and averaging 3:04 with the man advantage per night, and Leddy is coming off a four-shot game. Upticks in shot volume are often rewarded in short order.
