DraftKings NHL: Tuesday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

There are nine games in the NHL on Tuesday. Here are a handful of recommendations across multiple price points to consider while assembling your DraftKings lineups.

GOALIE

John Gibson, ANA vs. TAM ($7,800): With a 7-2-4 record, .939 save percentage and 1.83 GAA through his past 13 outings, Gibson has found his form and warrants a long look Tuesday. In the middle of a daunting California swing, the Lightning are on the wrong end of back-to-back road games and have scored two goals or fewer in five of their past six outings. Additionally, Gibson's salary doesn't reflect his exceptional recent form.

CENTER

Auston Matthews, TOR vs. BUF ($7,500): This salary isn't prohibitive enough to ignore Matthews' elite production. Not only does he have 15 goals, 24 points and 72 shots over his past 22 games, the Sabres enter this game on the wrong end of a back-to-back set. Plus, among all skaters with at least 600 minutes this season, Matthews' 1.73 goals, 3.04 points and 11.76 shots per 60 minutes rank fourth, ninth and third in the league, respectively.

Ryan Johansen, NAS at VAN ($5,600): A hometown return stands as the perfect slump-busting spot for Johansen. The Vancouver native carries a mid-priced salary, but has scored an underwhelming single assist through his past five games. However, he's the Predators' go-to offensive center with an average 20:34 of ice time (3:39 with the man advantage) during his current five-game slide, and Johansen owns ample upside.

WING

Charlie Coyle, MIN vs. NJD ($6,000): The Devils are playing their fourth road game in six nights, which sets up as a nice fantasy spot for Minnesota. Coyle has thrived under head coach Bruce Boudreau and is in the midst of a career year with five goals, 19 points and 33 shots through his past 19 games. At this salary, his 2.77 points per 60 minutes (ranked 24th among all skaters with at least 700 minutes) stands out in a juicy matchup, especially since he logs top offensive minutes in all situations.

Connor Brown, TOR vs. BUF ($4,400): The 23-year-old winger has caught fire alongside Matthews, and Brown has seven goals, 11 points and 23 shots through his past 10 games. The duo has combined for an incredible 4.64 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five, and Brown serves as a solid stack option to help mitigate the higher salary of Matthews. As noted, Buffalo is also playing its second game in consecutive nights.

Craig Smith, NAS at VAN ($3,900): Way down the price list, Smith checks in as a low-priced target because he's expected to skate with Ryan Johansen and Filip Forsberg on the top line Tuesday. It's been a poor season for Smith, but he's also hit the 20-goal plateau in each of the previous three years, so maybe the line shuffle helps kick-start his offensive results.

DEFENSE

Kevin Shattenkirk, STL vs. OTT ($5,000): While he's missed the scoresheet in six of his past eight games, Shattenkirk has a multi-point showing in the other two outings. He's posted a fifth-ranked 1.78 points per 60 minutes among all defensemen with at least 5,000 minutes over the past four years, so this salary offers plenty of value considering his high ceiling and excellent track record of offensive production.

Mathew Dumba, MIN vs. NJD ($4,200): Heating up again of late while not breaking the bank, Dumba lands in a nice spot Tuesday. The Wild have scored 15 goals over their past three games, and the 22-year-old has two goals, five points and six shots through his past four outings. Best of all, Dumba practiced with the No. 1 power-play unit Monday.
