DraftKings NHL: Tuesday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

The NHL emerges from the All-Star break with a 14-game slate Tuesday. There are obviously plenty of paths you can follow to differentiate your selections. Here are a handful of recommendations to consider while assembling your DraftKings lineups.

GOALIE

Philipp Grubauer, WAS at NYI ($7,900): The competent backup has won nine of 11 starts this season with a .924 save percentage and 2.13 GAA. Washington is 12-1-1 with just 2.07 goals allowed per 60 minutes in January, too. Hope the Islanders' respectable home-ice record (15-8-5 with 3.0 goals per game) drives down Grubauer's ownership.

CENTER

Anze Kopitar, LOS at ARI ($5,300): In the midst of the worst offensive campaign of his career, Kopitar boasts an unsustainably low 5.8 shooting percentage after posting a 12.4 mark through his first 10 seasons. The Coyotes allow the most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes (12.53) in the league, so this matchup is one that could allow Kopitar to get a quick start to the unofficial second half.

Jason Spezza, DAL vs. TOR ($4,900): You'll want to double-check the line assignments, but Spezza was skating with Tyler Seguin before the All-Star break, which has been a proven connection for Dallas. The duo has combined for 3.76 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five since Spezza joined the Stars, and they also share time on the No. 1 power-play unit. This price is low, too.

WING

Corey Perry, ANA vs. COL ($6,500): The Avalanche are allowing a league-high 3.33 goals per 60 minutes, and Perry has always been a superior scorer on home ice. He has 46 goals and 80 points through his past 100 games at the Honda Center. Plus, Perry's current 6.3 shooting percentage has plenty of positive regression ahead, as he posted a 16.0 mark over the previous three seasons.

Jaden Schwartz, STL vs. WPG ($4,900): Rounding into form with a goal, 10 points and 15 shots over his past nine games, Schwartz has also found his way back to Vladimir Tarasenko's line. The duo have posted a solid 2.94 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five the past three seasons, and Winnipeg is allowing the fifth most goals per 60 minutes (3.17) on the road this year.

Sebastian Aho, CAR vs. PHI ($4,200): The rookie has found an offensive groove over the past month or so with nine goals, 15 points and 57 shots through his past 23 games. The Flyers have allowed the fourth most goals per 60 minutes (3.19) on the road this season, and Aho's salary offers upside and cap relief.

DEFENSE

Justin Faulk, CAR vs. PHI ($5,300): While there is some game-to-game inconsistency, Faulk has heated up of late with six goals, 12 points, 62 shots and 20 blocked shots while averaging 22:33 of ice time (including 2:51 on the power play) over his past 16 outings. He also owns a 19th-ranked 1.41 points per 60 minutes among all defensemen with at least 4,000 minutes the past three years.

Kevin Shattenkirk, STL vs. WPG ($4,900): As noted, Winnipeg enters with an underwhelming road resume, and Shattenkirk is an established high-end offensive defenseman. He's posted a fourth-ranked 1.8 points per 60 minutes among all defensemen with at least 3,000 minutes the past three seasons, and Shattenkirk's 18 power-play points this year are tied for most in the league among all rearguards.
