FanDuel NHL: Tuesday Picks

FanDuel NHL: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

Unfortunately, it still feels like hockey weather in much of the country. I'm sure we'd all be perfectly happy to watch guys skate on ice without having snow outside our windows. There are nine NHL games Tuesday, and here are the players who are particularly enticing for daily fantasy purposes:

GOALIE

Ben Bishop, LOS vs. ARI ($8,400): Since Jonathan Quick got the start Monday, Bishop seems in line to start this game. Otherwise, why trade for a player like Bishop? The Coyotes are 9-20-4 on the road, and they've only scored 2.37 goals per game. On the other side, they've allowed 3.22 goals per game, which means Bishop should have plenty of offensive support. He could be in position for a relatively easy win, especially considering the Kings have allowed a league-low 25.9 shots on net per contest.

CENTER

Logan Couture, SAN vs. BUF ($6,800): Couture has tallied 23 goals in 66 games and has notched nine points in his last eight contests. The Sabres have allowed a league-high 34.1 shots on goal per game, which bodes well for Couture. Additionally, he has averaged 3:06 per game on the power play and has tallied 13 points (including 10 goals) during that time. Buffalo has the 29th-ranked penalty kill, which should have Couture salivating at the possibility.

Vincent Trocheck, FLA vs. TOR ($5,600): Trocheck has averaged a robust 12.7 fantasy points per game. He's played a career-high 21:13 per game, and in that time has managed to put 196 shots on net in 67 games. In fact, in his last eight games, he's directed 30 shots on net; that should make this matchup with the Maple Leafs particularly favorable. Toronto has allowed 32.7 shots on net per contest, which is third most in the NHL. The Maple Leafs have also allowed 2.85 goals per game, so perhaps one of Trocheck's shots will end up in the back of the net.

WING

Taylor Hall, NJD vs. WPG ($6,600): On Monday, Winnipeg was playing in Nashville. On Tuesday, they are on the road against New Jersey. That certainly won't benefit the Jets, who have allowed 3.16 goals per game. It also could mean Michael Hutchinson (3.24 GAA, .893 save percentage) will be in net for the Jets, which would be a good thing for Hall. For his part, Hall has tallied 186 shots on net in 58 games and has also notched 13 power-play points. Winnipeg owns the 28th-ranked penalty kill, so the Jets likely won't provide a ton of resistance for Hall when they are down a man.

Leon Draisaitl, EDM vs. DAL ($6,400): Draisaitl has started 35.2 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, which is fourth most of any Oiler who has played at least 500 minutes this season. He's also averaged 2:44 per game with the extra man with a whopping 21 power-play points, and now he gets to take a crack at Dallas' league-worst penalty kill. At even strength, the Stars aren't much better, allowing 3.24 goals per contest (second most in the NHL).

Tanner Pearson, LOS vs. ARI ($5,400): Both the Kings and the Coyotes played Monday, but Arizona is less equipped to deal with back-to-back games. That's partially because they are simply not a good team. After all, they have allowed 3.22 goals and 33.6 shots on net per contest. The Coyotes also don't have LA's enviable goaltending situation. Mike Smith started Monday, and either he will have to play on consecutive nights or Louis Domingue (3.20 GAA, .899 save percentage) will be in net. Considering that Smith headed into Monday's game against Colorado with a 3.00 GAA of his own, it looks good either way for Pearson. The Kings winger has 15 points in his last 13 games, tallying 39 shots on goal during that stretch.

Jonathan Marchessault, FLA vs. TOR ($4,900): Marchessault has started 36.4 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, which is third most of any Florida forward. If anybody was concerned that he was a flash in the pan, he has four goals on 32 shots in his last 10 games – giving Marchessault his first 20-goal season. As noted previously, the Maple Leafs have given up 2.85 goals per game, as well as 32.6 shots on net per contest. Marchessault has averaged 11.3 fantasy points per game, but is reasonably priced probably due to his status as a previous unknown.

DEFENSEMEN

Alec Martinez, LOS vs. ARI ($4,600): Martinez wasn't quite able to sustain his hot start to the season, but is still having a fine year. Over his last four games, he's notched six points. Martinez has started 38.0 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, a substantial number for a blueliner. He's also been productive on both ends of the ice, getting 121 shots on goal and blocking 134 shots. While he may not have a ton of opportunities to get in front of the puck against Arizona, he shouldn't have much of an issue against the Coyotes' porous defense.

Andrej Sekera, EDM vs. DAL ($4,100): Sekera has notched eight power-play points, averaging 2:14 per game with the extra man. Those are solid numbers, but he's certainly got enough power-play chops to take on the worst penalty kill in the league, which belongs to Dallas. While the Stars have been horrendous defensively, their offense has averaged 59.9 shots attempts per 60 minutes. That's fifth most in the league, and Sekera has blocked 122 shots in 66 games. It wouldn't be surprising to see him get in front of a couple of pucks.
