FantasyDraft NHL: Sunday Values

FantasyDraft NHL: Sunday Values

This article is part of our FantasyDraft NHL series.

It's a busier Sunday than usual in the NHL, with 11 games on the slate, though only seven are included in FantasyDraft's evening contests. That is still a notable number of players to choose from, and hopefully this list of player to target will help lead you to fantasy glory.

GOALIE

San Jose Sharks, SAN at VAN ($16,700): Both the Sharks and Canucks are 2-8-0 in their last 10 games, but there's more reason to trust San Jose than Vancouver. The Sharks have a plus-16 goal differential, while the Canucks' is minus-52. Plus, Vancouver has only averaged 2.19 goals and 27.7 shots on net per contest. On the other hand, San Jose has allowed a mere 2.47 goals and 27.6 shot on goal per game. This seems like the kind of game where the Sharks can turn things around.

CENTER

Mikael Granlund, MIN vs. COL ($12,900): Granlund's scoring has slowed down a bit recently, but he's averaged 13.05 fantasy points per game, so there's still reason to trust him. Overall, he has 25 goals and 67 points in 78 games, including 20 power-play points. There's a good chance Granlund will regain his form in this matchup, as the Avalanche have been terrible this season defensively, allowing a league-worst 3.35 goals per game, with a 28th-ranked penalty kill.

Tyler Toffoli, LOS vs. ARI ($10,700): Toffoli has started 39 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, which is fifth-most among Kings forwards, and it's a high percentage by NHL standards. That will put Toffoli in a strong position to take advantage of a favorable matchup, as the Coyotes have given up 3.18 goals and 34.1 shots on net per game. In his last 10 games, Toffoli has six points and 29 shots on goal, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him get a few pucks on net. Toffoli has also averaged 2:14 per game on the power play, and Arizona has the 25th-ranked penalty kill.

WING

Jonathan Drouin, TAM vs. DAL ($11,100): The Stars have allowed 3.14 goals per game, and they will be on the road on the second night of a back-to-back. When playing on zero days rest, Dallas has given up 3.22 goals per contest. Also, the Stars have the league's worst penalty kill. Meanwhile, Drouin has averaged 3:09 per game on the power play, and he's notched a whopping 25 power-play points in 68 games. He's also started 37.6 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, which is the most of any Tampa Bay forward.

Patrick Marleau, SAN at VAN ($11,000): The 37-year-old Marleau still has life in his legs, as he has 26 goals on 187 shots in 78 games. He's also played 3:03 per game with the extra man, tallying 16 power-play points. Vancouver has a bad offense, but their defense isn't any better, allowing 2.90 goals and 31.9 shots on net per contest plus the 27th-ranked penalty kill.

Rick Nash, NYR vs. PHI ($10,700): Nash has five goals in his last six games, and overall he's registered 192 shots on net in 65 appearances. He's also tallied nine power-play points, including six goals. Meanwhile, the Flyers have given up 2.87 goals per game, and they will be on the road on the second night of a back-to-back. The situation is further complicated by the fact that Steve Mason is dealing with an illness and Michal Neuvirth frighteningly collapsed Saturday.

DEFENSEMEN

Jake Muzzin, LOS vs. ARI ($9,500): Muzzin has seven points in his last 11 games, and he's tallied 28 shots on goal in that time. Overall, he's put 178 shots on goal in 77 games, which is a big positive considering the Coyotes have allowed 34.1 shots on net per contest. Muzzin has also averaged 2:25 on the power play, tallying 10 points. As noted, Arizona has allowed 3.18 goals per game, and the Coyotes have the 25th-ranked penalty kill.

Alexander Edler, VAN vs. SAN ($7,700): Edler has averaged 10.50 fantasy points per game, a healthy number for a player at this price. He's put 20 shots on goal in his last six games, and he's notched 127 shots on net in 63 games total. Granted, the Sharks haven't allowed a ton of shots, but Edler can also rack up fantasy points on the other end of the ice, as the Sharks have attempted 59.1 shots per 60 minutes, which is seventh-most in the NHL. Edler, for his part, has blocked 129 shots.
