DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

There are just two games Sunday, as the Caps look to close out the Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre, while the Bruins are still on the brink of elimination at home against Ottawa. Here are a number of players to consider while assembling your DraftKings lineups from the shallow player pool.

GOALIE

Braden Holtby, WAS at TOR ($8,300): Washington has been given everything they can handle by the Maple Leafs, but the Capitals have won consecutive contests, and Holtby had his best showing in Game 5. Allowing Toronto back into the series is the last thing the Capitals want, and they've shown to be the dominant team for stretches. Holtby's also the best goalie available.

CENTER

Nicklas Backstrom, WAS at TOR ($7,300): Fading the most reliable scorer in the player pool is ill-advised. Backstrom has now hit the scoresheet in each of the past four games for two goals, six points and nine shots. He also posted an elite 3.45 points per 60 minutes during the regular season.

Derick Brassard, OTT at BOS ($4,700): The 29-year-old veteran has been a key contributor for the Senators with two goals, six points and 11 shots through his past four games. He's on the top power-play unit, and head coach Guy Boucher is leaning on his former QMJHL star heavily.

WING

Alex Ovechkin, WAS at TOR ($8,400): Despite scoring a goal in Games 2 through 4 and registering 21 shots during the series, Ovechkin still hasn't had a monster showing. Game 6 is as good a time as any. No. 8 has the ability to take over, and it isn't out of the question to suggest Toronto's overachieved through the first five games of the series.

William Nylander, TOR vs. WAS ($5,900): Sporting a three-game point streak (a goal and three helpers) with nine shots during that span, Nylander isn't getting cheated. He's been on the ice for 23 high-danger scoring chances, and his salary doesn't break the bank.

Tom Wilson, WAS at TOR ($3,200): With three goals through the first five games of the series, Wilson is a serviceable low-priced flier. He's unlikely to repeat Game 4's two-goal showing, but the blue-collar winger has carved out an important role for the Caps.

DEFENSE

Erik Karlsson, OTT at BOS ($7,500): Game 5 was the first time Karlsson didn't register a point in the series, but he recorded four shots and blocked four shots to provide a usable fantasy showing. He's going to play nearly half the game, so that alone provides a high floor.

Dmitry Orlov, WAS at TOR ($3,800): Consistently dangerous, not only does Orlov continue to pass the eye test, he provides upside and cap relief. He's collected two assists, 11 shots and 13 blocked shots while averaging 24:52 of ice time during the series, so there's also a respectable floor.
