DraftKings NHL: Saturday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Antti Raanta, ARI vs. VGK ($7,800): The Golden Knights took the victory in Dallas on Friday, so this is a ripe spot for a letdown showing from the expansion club. Raanta is expected to start for the Coyotes after missing the season opener, and the 28-year-old Finn offers nice cap relief despite posting excellent numbers the past three seasons. In a backup role, Raanta recorded a strong .924 save percentage and 2.18 GAA. There is a risk that he's a popular daily target, though.

CENTER

Jack Eichel, BUF at NYI ($7,200): This is a solid spot to lock in Eichel. While the 20-year-old pivot is only coming off a modest season opener with an assist and three shots through 19:22 of ice time (4:41 with the man advantage), the Islanders are on the wrong end of back-to-back games and allowed five goals to Columbus on Friday. Additionally, Eichel's 12.3 shots per 60 minutes ranked second in the league last season, so he offers a high fantasy floor.

Evgeny Kuznetsov, WAS at MON ($5,800): Lining up with Alex Ovechkin was a smashing success in the season opener, as Kuznetsov collected three helpers while logging 20:12 of ice time. The Canadiens aren't a doormat, but they could be much closer to the bottom than the top than in years past. However, it's worth noting that Kuznetsov is more of an upside play because he isn't a high-volume shooter.

WING

Patrick Kane, CHI vs. CLM ($7,700): Four even-strength points to open the season against the Penguins was an impressive showing from Kane, and he's coming off five consecutive seasons with over a point a game for the campaign. The Blue Jackets enter this road game on the wrong end of a back-to-back set, so with Kane locked into a go-to offensive role, he offers a solid floor-ceiling combo.

Clayton Keller, ARI vs. VGK ($4,500): As noted, the Golden Knights are on the second leg of a back-to-back set to open the season, so Keller is in prime position for another solid showing at a manageable salary. The 19-year-old rookie logged 19:44 of ice time and 3:59 with the man advantage in his first game of the season and registered a goal and six shots. After scoring at every previous stop in his career, it appears the NHL will be no different for Keller.

Ondrej Kase, ANA vs. PHI ($3,600): Anaheim's line combinations are going to be in the blender again Saturday because the Ducks are dealing with multiple injuries. However, Kase is coming off a strong Opening Night showing with a goal and five shots, and he also logged 2:59 of power-play time. This is Philadelphia's third road game in four nights to start the season, so Kase checks out as a source of cap relief.

DEFENSE

Oscar Klefbom, EDM at VAN ($5,200): Not only did Klefbom lead all Oilers in ice time in the season opener, he also registered a whopping nine shots. He's the quarterback of the No. 1 power-play unit and no defenseman spent more time on the ice with Connor McDavid than Klefbom did last season. This a soft matchup and salary in which to target the 24-year-old Swede.

Mattias Ekholm, NAS at PIT ($3,600): The 27-year-old defenseman offers a target-worthy fantasy floor with upside at an affordable price. Ekholm opened the season with two shots and two blocked shots through 23:05 of ice time (3:23 with the man advantage) and projects to continue being deployed in a similar role. For what it's worth, he notched three points through six games in the Cup finals against Pittsburgh last season, too.
