There are seven games tonight in the NHL and a few key matchups to look at. Here are some players from those contests to consider when building your lineups.
Goalie
Jacob Markstrom, VAN vs OTT ($7,600): Markstrom was strong in his first start of the season against the dangerous Oilers. He was able to stop 33 of 35 shots en route to a home victory. With Ottawa coming to town, likely down two key offensive weapons in Erik Karlsson and Mike Hoffman, Markstrom is poised to perform well again at a sub-$8,000 price tag.
Center
Derek Stepan, ARI at VGK ($4,800): Stepan was acquired in the offseason from the Rangers and has been immediately slotted in on the first line and top power-play unit. He's flanked by two young, talented wingers in Max Domi and Clayton Keller and has averaged over 21 minutes of ice time in the first two games of the season. In a game that should be fast-paced with scoring chances on both sides, look for Stepan to capitalize and pay given his cheap salary.
Bo Horvat, VAN vs OTT ($5,200): The Canucks made a commitment to Horvat in the offseason, signing him to a contract extension after a career year in which he scored 20 goals and added 32 assists. In the first game of the season, Horvat had two goals and saw over 18 minutes of ice time. He's slotted in on the second line and second power-play unit, too.
Wings
Jonathan Marchessault, VGK vs ARI ($5,000): Last season with the Panthers, Marchessault scored 30 goals and added 21 assists in 75 games. With his shoot-first mentality and role on the top line and top power-play unit, Marchessault is simply too cheap in a game that should feature plenty of scoring.
Chris Kreider, NYR vs STL ($5,100): Kreider is a guy that should never be this cheap based on his skillset. He skates on the first line and top power-play unit and is one year removed from a career year, which saw him score 28 goals. The Blues are playing their second game in as many days after beating the Islanders on Monday.
Clayton Keller, ARI at VGK ($4,000): As one of the favorites to win the Calder Trophy this season, Keller has already seen his salary rise from $3,500 to $4,000. The 18-year-old is averaging over 20 minutes of ice time in his first two games and is skating on the top line with Derek Stepan and Max Domi. At this price, he's a no-brainer in the Knights' inaugural game on The Strip.
Defense
Mike Green, DET at DAL ($4,900): The days of Green being an elite offensive force from the blue line are behind us, but he's still proving to be productive in Detroit. At under $5,000, Green finds himself in a great spot against a Stars team that was torched by defensemen last year and has allowed the fifth most fantasy points to them this season.
Ivan Provorov, PHI at NSH ($4,300): With the Flyers wrapping up a four-game road trip to start the season, they travel to Nashville for a game that should see a lot of offense. In the Flyers' first three contests, Provorov has done a little bit of everything in scoring one goal, dishing out an assist, directing five shots on goal, and blocking ten shots. Skating around 24 minutes per game, Provorov should produce again as a low-cost option on the back end.
