Just a few things that caught my eye:
  • How many Hawks can a Bruin hit if a Bruin could hit Hawks? Answer? 50. Wow. Hit the ice tubs, boys.
  • Jaromir Jagr and his anti-beard -- so close, yet so far, far away. Maybe the posts have fattened up over the duration of his career.
  • What's your over-under on overtimes this series? Geez. Enough already.
  • Whoa -- Jay Feaster tossed the sixth, 22nd and and 28th picks in this year's Entry Draft at the Avs for the top pick overall, but was rebuffed. I'd consider it in a deep draft like this one, particularly if you're planning on taking Seth Jones. No offense, but it just takes a while for defenders to deliver and it'd just make Feaster look worse ... unless he really was targeting Nathan McKinnon.
  • I like what Corey Crawford has done, but Team Canada? Really? I'm not sure I'll ever be sold on a puck blocker being a better twinetender than a real athlete.
  • Dan Paille, you da man. It was a beautiful snipe, though. The Bruins' fourth line sure came up big.
  • There was really nowhere but up for the Bruins after that first. Yikes. The Bruins climbed the hill over the course of the game while the Hawks lost serious steam. Bad combination for Chicago.
  • I dunno about that no-goal call in the first. I know there's that thing called "intent" to blow the whistle, but that was awfully late.

General manager Darryl Sutter hired his brother Brent Sutter to be the new coach of the Flames on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports. The Flames also hired Ryan McGill, Dave Lowry and Jamie McLennan(notes) assistant coaches.

Brent Sutter is close to signing on as the coach of the Flames, according to a report late Saturday night from TSN.ca. If true, the signing will come with the blessing of New Jersey general manager Lou Lamoriello as Sutter owes the Devils a year on his contract.

Mike Keenan was fired as coach of the Calgary Flames on Friday, almost a month after his team lost in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year. Keenan spent just two seasons with Calgary, and general manager Darryl Sutter said expectations were not met. The Flames finished the regular season with 46 wins and 98 points, but they were ousted in the first round in six games by the Chicago Blackhawks. Keenan, who had one year remaining on his contract, said following the playoff loss to Chicago that he believed he would be back to finish his deal. Keenan was hired as the Flames coach in June 2007, replacing Jim Playfair. He leaves Calgary with an 88-60-16 regular-season record. His 672 victories rank fourth on the career coaching list. Keenan has coached eight of the 30 teams in the league. He has also led Philadelphia, Chicago, the New York Rangers, St. Louis, Vancouver, Boston and Florida. He won the Stanley Cup in 1994 with the Rangers.
