Recent Blog Post: NHL Playoff Observations -- Friday
Just a few things that caught my eye:
  • James Reimer, two; Roberto Luongo, zero. Playoff wins, that is -- isn't that what Leafs' fans thought they'd get out of a Bobby Lou trade? Any chance they eat crow?
  • It's tough to dominate 19:59.58 of a period and see the tide turn in the last 0.2 seconds. Dustin Penner surprised last postseason -- can he continue it this time out?
  • Welcome to the postseason, Mike Ribeiro. It's about time you delivered something. Now it's your turn, Nazem Kadri -- you can show up any time.
  • Brian Elliott has big onions for a goalie -- he didn't even flinch when Dustin Brown came in hard on a breakaway late in the second. Impressive. He made Brown make the first move and then just calmly did his job while came close to a separated shoulder.
  • The hero in Motown was Henrik Zetterberg -- he picked a perfect time to snap a career-long, seven-game post-season goal skid that dated back to last year. Game 7s are a crap shoot, but I still lean to the quackers.
  • Jaden Schwartz is going to be a very good player in this league. What he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in tenacity and effort. Wouldn't it be neat to see Schwartz and Brendan Gallagher playing together?
  • Jonathan Toews finally picked up his first two points of the postseason -- both assists -- Thursday night in Game 5. Wow
  • Marc-Andre Fleury's problem is between the ears. What's the over-under on when he returns? Or maybe it's IF he returns.
  • Can Jason Spezza deliver the same kind of boost to the Sens than Erik Karlsson's did when he returned? That team is starting to feel a lot more dangerous. That bug-eye walrus sure knows how to get the best out of his players.

RotoWire Update

Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock signed a one-year contract extension with the team that will take him through the 2013-14 season, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
  11/6/2011
The Blues fired Davis Payne as head coach and replaced him with Ken Hitchcock, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The Blues are off to a 6-7 start and sit in 13th place in the Western Conference. Hitchcock brings his .588 career winning percentage to St. Louis to lead a team that many think have the horses to reach the playoffs.
