Released by UFC
MiddleweightOther
May 26, 2019
The UFC released Elias Theodorou on Sunday, Raphael Marinho of Combate reports.
ANALYSIS
Theodorou's most recent appearance was a loss to Derek Brunson via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night in Ottawa on May 4. The 30-year-old went 7-3 in the UFC, but displayed very little finishing power during his time with the company -- six of his seven victories went to the judges. Nonetheless, he was a popular Canadian fighter with a winning record and several ongoing projects outside the Octagon, so his release comes as a pretty big surprise. Look for promotions such as Bellator, PFL and One FC to make a serious run to add "The Spartan" to their roster.
Falls on home soil in Ottawa

Theodorou lost to Derek Brunson via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Ottawa.
ANALYSIS
Theodorou's UFC record is terrific (8-3), but Saturday was another concerning effort for the Canadian. Elias has displayed virtually no power during his time with the company and that trend continued on Saturday. He keeps himself in excellent shape and he has a good frame for 185 pounds, but Theodorou is a below-average athlete with little-to-no ability to stop fights. An explosive opponent such a Brunson is a worse-case scenario for Elias. Theodorou has enough going for him to remain relevant for the foreseeable future, but he simply cannot compete with the division's better fighters.

February 20, 2019
Theodorou has been added to UCF Ottawa on May 4 against Derek Brunson in the middleweight division, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
It'll be a high-profile fight between the two, as each are currently in the top 15 of middleweight rankings with Brunson at eighth and Theodorou at 14th. Theodorou comes in as the hotter of the two, however, as he's won three straight and five of his last six while Brunson has a 2-4 record over his last six. Theodorou, who originally hails from Toronto, has an 8-2 overall with his most recent outing ending in a win over Eryk Ander via split decision.
Winning streak at three after decisioning Eryk Anders
MiddleweightOther
December 8, 2018
Theodorou defeated Eryk Anders via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC 231 on Saturday in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Theodorou is not the most gifted athlete on the UFC roster, but he plays to his strengths well. He limited Anders' opportunities to do offensive damage in Rounds 1 and 3 and his chin held up in Round 2. Elias has above-average cardio and a high fight IQ. He does a nice job of tailoring his game plan to each specific opponent he faces. Theodorou's name is bigger than his game at this point, but he can still pull an upset from time to time as he did on Saturday. He has now won three fights in a row.

Theodorou will fight Eryk Anders in a middleweight bout at UFC 231 on December 8.
ANALYSIS
Thedorou was scheduled to fight Antonio Carlos Junior at UFC 231, but found himself in need of a new opponent after Carlos Junior was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury. Theodorou is coming into this fight on a two-fight winning streak. His new opponent, Eryk Anders, will be fighting for the third time in four months, and is coming into this fight off a tough loss to Thiago Santos.
