October 4, 2021
Rodriguez was one of five fighters dropped by the UFC on Sunday, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Looking back at the UFC run of Rodriguez, he did pick up a few wins against lesser competition, but ends his run on a three-fight losing streak. It doesn't seem like the 32-year-old's power has evaporated, but rather not carried over to the UFC. It wouldn't be surprising to see him have some success in other promotions if he can improve on the defensive side.

Drops third straight fight
Light HeavyweightOther
September 18, 2021
Rodriguez lost to Tafon Nchukwi via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
"Slow Mike" was unable to get out of first gear in a fight in which he entered as a very minor +105 underdog. Rodriguez offers nothing from a grappling perspective, so it's going to be nearly impossible for him to win a fight like this one in which he is getting off second in all the striking exchanges. Rodriguez picked up a couple knockout wins early in his UFC run, but has gone cold since, dropping three fights in a row and four of his last five. Set to turn 33 years of age in late November, Rodriguez's time with the company may be up.

Rodriguez is expected to take on Tafon Nchukwi is a light heavyweight bout at the UFC event Sept. 18, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodriguez will be looking to bounce back after dropping his last two bouts. He last was in the Octagon back in February when he lost to Danilo Marques by submission. Nchukwi is coming off his first loss as a professional against Jun Yong Park back in May.
Facing six-month medical ban
Light HeavyweightOther
February 9, 2021
Rodriguez received a six-month medical suspension after sustaining a left shoulder injury Saturday in his second-round submission loss to Danilo Marques at UFC Vegas 18, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The suspension will prevent Rodriguez from competing until Aug. 6, unless he receives a negative MRI result on his shoulder and gains full medical clearance from an orthopedic doctor.
Not competitive in ground battle
Light HeavyweightOther
February 6, 2021
Rodriguez lost to Danilo Marques via submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:52 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a truly terrifying performance from Rodriguez in a fight in which he entered as a significant -215 favorite. It's no secret that "Slow Mike" would have much preferred to keep this fight standing, but it was his complete inability to remain even the least bit competitive on the mat that was ultimately his undoing. It's hard to believe that a guy who trains under the tutelage of Joe Lauzon every day could look so poor on the ground, but here we are. Seven fights into his UFC run, Rodriguez is sporting a 2-4 (1NC) record. The light heavyweight division lacks any real depth, but those type of numbers aren't going to get the job done.
Appeal unsuccessful
Light HeavyweightOther
November 23, 2020
Rodriguez's appeal regarding his loss to Ed Herman in September was denied Monday, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodriguez appeared to have won a TKO victory in Round 2 with a knee to the midsection, but the referee incorrectly ruled the strike to be a low blow and declined to review replay footage. Herman was given the customary five minutes to recover from the alleged groin strike and later went on to earn a submission victory in Round 3. Rodriguez's coach, Tyson Chartier, is expected to continue to try to get the result overturned, but his already slim chances got even slimmer following Monday's decision.
