LMP2 Victory at Mid-Ohio
IMSA
May 15, 2022
LMP2 honors at Mid-Ohio went to the No. 81 DragonSpeed Oreca 07 Gibson of Montoya and Henrik Hedman, despite a late-race penalty for the Colombian spinning around the then class-leading No. 11 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca of Jonathan Bomarito, sportscar365.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Montoya would rally from the penalty and drive like mad through the LMP2 field. He would re-pass Bomarito for the lead in the final 10 minutes and extend to a 13-second victory over the No. 11 Oreca. It was Montoya's first win of the season and fourth-career IMSA WeatherTech victory.

2008 Fantasy Outlook
Montoya is in much the same position as his teammate Jamie McMurray this season. Two seasons removed from his one-victory and 14 Top 10 campaign in 2010, the Columbian has been mired in a very long slump. His fiery crash into the jet dryer in the Daytona 500 last year is about all that is memorable for Montoya and the No. 42 team in 2012 and that’s a bad sign. After Homestead he capped a two Top-10 finish and 22nd-place driver standings effort last season. Like McMurray the final 10 races of last season showed little-to-no improvement for Montoya. One Top-15 finish during the Chase compared to six finishes outside the Top 20 are a bad sign for the upcoming season.
