2015 Fantasy Racing Outlook

Kenseth's failure to advance in the Chase and dust-up with Joey Logano in the stretch run sums up what was a frustrating end to last season for the Joe Gibbs Racing star. Despite late-season wins at Richmond and Loudon, the driver of the No. 20 Toyota would be sitting on the sidelines in more ways than one over the last few races. The short offseason will give Kenseth a chance to hit the reset button for 2016. The good news is that he still won five races and picked up 20 top 10s last year, despite his poor end to the campaign. Those numbers are pretty consistent with where the veteran driver has been statistically since joining Joe Gibbs Racing. There's no good reason to expect a falloff in production this year for the 16-season vet.

Kenseth started the No. 20 Dollar General Toyota in the sixth position at Phoenix International Raceway and was able to run inside the Top 10 for the first third of the race. Kenseth was running 11th when the day’s final caution came out. The team would bring him down pit road for two tires and Kenseth lined up 10th for the green-white-checker restart. He was able to gain three spots over those final two laps to earn a seventh-place finish in the Good Sam 500k, joegibbsracing.com reports.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

If he had to do it over again, Kenseth might have stayed in line in front of Martin Truex Jr., rather than moving up the track to try to block Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin. But Kenseth had to make a split-second decision, and he moved into the outside lane in the final corner of Sunday's Daytona 500, NASCAR Wire Service reports.

Kenseth will be without spotter Chris "Crazy" Osborne for next weekend's Sprint Unlimited and likely the Daytona 500. Osborne told NBC Sports that he continues to recover from injuries suffered in a Dec. 17 auto accident and will not spot for Kenseth in the Feb. 13 Sprint Unlimited at Daytona International Speedway. Osborne's next doctor's visit is Feb. 16. The doctor will determine then if Osborne will be able to spot for Kenseth in the Daytona 500.
