Not Returning to ThorSport
Camping World Truck
January 13, 2017
Abreu will not return to full-time competition in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with ThorSport Racing this season, motorsport.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Abreu had kind of a rocky rookie season with this team last year. He claimed only five Top-10 finishes and ended up a disappointing 13th in the final driver standings. Abreu tried to negotiate a new contract with ThorSport but sponsors for the team came up short. "I wish things could have worked out," Abreu said. "The way sponsorship goes, sometimes things change. That's just the way things go. I'm not going to give up on it. I'm just going to take a step back."

The USAC Midget car champion and two-time winner of the prestigious Chili Bowl, will move into the Camping World Truck Series this season. Abreu got his first taste of NASCAR stock car racing last season in the K&N Pro Series East and he excelled in that effort. The young Californian grabbed one victory and eight Top-10 finishes en route to finishing fifth in the final standings of that racing series. Abreu will take over the wheel of the No. 98 Toyota truck that Johnny Sauter has raced the last several seasons. This very strong team should give Abreu the ability to impact the truck series immediately. He’ll team with crew chief Doug George and become one of the top contenders to win this season’s Rookie of the Year award.
