Clauson, considered the top dirt-track racer in the country, has died from injuries suffered in an accident at the Belleville Midget Nationals USAC midget race, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Clauson was leading the race Saturday night when he crashed while passing lapped traffic. He sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Nebraska where he passed away Sunday evening. The four-time USAC national champion had 26 starts in the lower divisions of NASCAR and was well known in this racing series. He was 27.
