Forte has been named the starter for Thursday's preseason opener against the Chiefs, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Recommendation:
"Matt's done an excellent job," running backs coach Tim Spencer said. "He's a good football player. He's smart. He can make people miss. He loves the game, and that's not to put anybody down. We know what [Adrian Peterson] brings. Matt has some special qualities about him, and we're hoping he can put them on the field for real." The official promotion of Forte is just the latest bit of good news for the rookie, as he appears poised to open the season as the Bears' feature back as they move on from the Cedric Benson era.
