Moises Alou: Out 4-to-6 Weeks with Hernia -
3/5/2008 4:11:59 PM
Update:
Alou has a hernia and will have surgery Thursday. He won't be able to resume baseball activities for 4-6 weeks and could be out a few more weeks after that until he is ready to rejoin the team, the
Westchester Journal-News' Mets blog reports.
Recommendation:
Alou had an MRI in New York Wednesday as he felt some discomfort in his right groin and the resulting diagnosis is probably one of the worst possible results he and the team could have received. The Mets are already shorthanded due to injuries, and while Alou is out, look for Endy Chavez, once he returns from his ankle injury, and Angel Pagan to split time in left field while Alou is out. This could force the Mets to make a trade to bolster their depth or allow Brady Clark or maybe even Fernando Martinez to make the team out of spring training.
