Aguero came on for Edin Dzeko in the 83rd minute and then scored two minutes into stoppage time of Manchester City's 2-0 win at Newcastle on Sunday.

Aguero was held out of the starting XI after just recently returning to training following a long World Cup run with Argentina, but he seemed plenty fit in his limited time off the bench. Aguero said earlier this week that he may not be 100 percent until the third week of the season, so it wouldn't be overly surprising to see him start on the bench for City's next match, which comes next Monday against Liverpool

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said Friday that he is unsure if Aguero will play Sunday against Newcastle. "He has had so many months without playing normally so we are trying to make a mix for him: a mix of pre-season training and trying to get him to our level to play for the team," manager Manuel Pellegrini said. "We will see on Sunday. I am not so sure if he will or will not."

Aguero is one of the Premier League's best scorers when he's fit, but that is something that plagued him last season. After playing for Argentina in the World Cup, he was delayed in preseason training for Manchester City, so it's entirely possible that Pellegrini could use him off the bench in the first few weeks of the season. If that happens, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic could start up front.

Aguero said he is still working his way back to fitness following the World Cup and he may not be 100 percent until the third week of the season, the club's official web site reports.

Aguero is a threat to score any time he is on the pitch, but it may be a few weeks before he's in the starting XI. If he begins Sunday's match on the bench, Stevan Jovetic could get the call up front with Edin Dzeko.

Aguero signed a five-year contract extension with Manchester City on Thursday.

Aguero has been a dominant goal scorer for the Citizens and he is a popular pick to lead the Premier League in goals this season. He battled a number of injuries last season, but when he's fit, he's one of the best forwards in the game.

Aguero, who suffered a thigh injury during Argentina's group stage match against Nigeria, may be able to play in the semifinal against the Netherlands on Wednesday, the Daily Mail reports. "Sergio has practiced three times. He's ready to play," said team doctor Daniel Martinez on Sunday.

Aguero's return will be a solid boost for Argentina, who will be without midfielder Angel di Maria, who suffered a thigh injury in the quarterfinal against Belgium. Aguero may not be able to go the whole 90, but he's a threat to score any time he's on the field, especially up top with Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain.

Aguero will not play in Argentina's round of 16 match at the World Cup against Switzerland due to the thigh injury he suffered Wednesday against Nigeria in their final group stage match, The Guardian reports.

There is speculation that Aguero could be out for the rest of the World Cup, although the Argentina FA has yet to confirm that report. Luckily for Argentina, they are incredibly deep at forward, with Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain and Ezequiel Lavezzi likely to start up front against the Swiss.

Aguero was subbed off after just 36 minutes in Argentina's World Cup match against Nigeria on Wednesday, the Manchester Evening News reports.

The injury was yet another issue that Aguero has faced over the last year, as he missed time in the most recent Premier League season with thigh, hamstring and groin injuries. With Argentina next playing Tuesday against Switzerland, there may be sufficient time for Aguero to return to fitness.

Aguero, who has been sidelined with a groin injury, said he will play in Sunday's season-finale against West Ham, the club's official web site reports. "I feel good -- I am not 100 percent yet, but I should be by Sunday and even if I'm not, the emotion of the occasion and the desire of everyone will carry me through and I won't notice any pain," Aguero said Friday.

Manchester City need only a draw to win their second Premier League title in the last three seasons, and Aguero obviously wants to be a part of it. There is no guarantee that he will start the match, as Edin Dzeko has done a fine job up front lately, but it wouldn't be surprising if Aguero featured, even if City have a commanding lead over the Hammers.
