Canas and Swansea mutually agreed to cancel his contract and the midfielder has since signed with the Spanish club Espanyol, the Daily Mail reports.

The regime change for the Swans ultimately was Canas' undoing. New manager Garry Monk informed the 27-year-old that he wasn't in his plans for the season and the two parties decided to part ways mutually as a result.

Canas returned from an ankle injury, coming on for Jonathan De Guzman in the 69th minute of Swansea's 3-0 victory over Cardiff on Saturday.

Canas has been sidelined since mid January with an ankle injury. While the Spaniard doesn't have much fantasy value due to his defensive role, new manager Gary Monk will be relieved to have as many players back as possible as the fixtures pile up.
