Donovan will retire at the end of the current MLS season, ESPN FC reports.

Donovan is already Major League Soccer's all-time leading scorer, and after failing to make the US Men's National Team for this summer's World Cup, it's tough to say he's got anything left to accomplish in America. It's been a storied career and he easily goes down as one of the best players ever in US history.

Donovan scored two goals Saturday against the Union, becoming the all-time scoring leader in MLS history.

Donovan came into the match tied with Jeff Cunningham, but he now stands alone at the top with 136 regular season goals. Donovan, who also holds the MLS playoff record with 22 goals, was playing in his first match since he was cut from the U.S. men's national team for this summer's World Cup.

Donovan did not make the final 23-man roster for this summer's World Cup, according to Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated.

While there have been inklings that this could happen, the decision to leave Donovan off the roster is still shocking. Donovan hasn't been at his best recently, and Jurgen Klinsmann clearly felt he had better players on the squad to compete this summer.

Donovan had two assists for the Galaxy in Sunday's 3-0 win over Chivas USA.

Landon has settled into his role as the playmaker for L.A. and he has formed a dynamic relationship with Robbie Keane up top. With that said, you are paying a premium in fantasy MLS because of the name.

Donovan will play more midfield this season for the LA Galaxy.

Donovan played 14 of his 21 games last year at forward, but the Galaxy's offseason moves have pushed Donovan over to the wing.

Donovan, who intimated recently that he'd like to go on loan to Everton during the January transfer window, will be staying Stateside instead, ESPN FC reports. LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena said that his players "aren't going anywhere. They had a full 11 months of playing and they need some time off."

U.S. national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann said he wanted his players who could go on loan to Europe to do just that to keep their fitness up ahead of the MLS season and next summer's World Cup. Donovan has already made two short loan moves to Everton in the past few years and said he'd love to go back. Unfortunately for him, it's not in the cards this time around.

Donovan has been named to the United States' roster for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which is being played in July, the Associated Press reports.

U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann has bypassed Donovan for recent World Cup qualifiers but he clearly believes the midfielder is now fit for national duty. Donovan has already played in three World Cups and is hoping to remain on the roster for more qualifying to take place in September.

Donovan assisted on Marcelo Sarvas' goal in the 27th minute and then scored his own in the 74th minute during Saturday's 2-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City.

The goal and assist were Donovan's first MLS points since returning from his sabbatical. He returned to the Galaxy in excellent shape and has made it very clear that he's trying to work his way back onto the U.S. national team.
