Vela was removed from the game after going down with the injury, while scans on the knee this week will help determine the severity of the issue.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

While he was held without a shot during Real Sociedad's surprising 1-0 win over Barcelona on Sunday, Vela had taken 20 shots in his previous four La Liga matches, scoring four goals during that span.

The Mexican striker has six goals and two assists this season, taking 37 shots (17 on goal) in his 16 appearances. He continues to start up front for David Moyes' squad and remains a decent fantasy option.

Vela scored his second goal of the season Sunday against Atletico Madrid, ending a eight-game streak without a score.

Despite not scoring on his own, Vela has two assists in his last four games. After some inconsistent playing time early in the season, Vela has locked down a spot in the starting XI, though it's unclear if his role will change at all now that David Moyes is leading the team.

Vela came on for Imanol Agirretxe in the 60th minute and then scored in the 75th minute of Real Sociedad's 4-2 victory over Real Madrid on Sunday.

Vela has come off the bench in both of Sociedad's La Liga matches this season, although it appears to be more of a fitness issue than anything else. With the international break giving him some more time to work out, it's only a matter of time before Vela finds himself back in the starting XI to try to break last year's marks of 16 goals and 12 assists in La Liga play.

Vela has signed a new four-year contract with Real Sociedad after the club paid Arsenal 8.8 million to remove the buy-back clause from his former contract, The Guardian reports.

Vela was linked with a return to Arsenal this summer by the Gunners activating the 3.5 million buy-back clause inserted in his 2012 transfer; however, Real Sociedad has now paid to obtain full ownership of the Mexican moving forward. The Spanish side's joint-top scorer (16) and leader in assists (12) last term, Vela has excelled since arriving in La Liga three seasons ago and represents Real Sociedad's most proven attacking threat.

Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay confirmed that Arsenal plan to execute the buy-back clause embedded in Vela's transfer agreement with Real Sociedad, reports the Daily Mail.

Vela was sent on loan by Arsenal to four different clubs after failing to earn a spot in the starting 11. He joined Arsenal in 2006, and moved to Real Sociedad in 2011 on loan at first, and then scored 31 goals in 78 games in 2012.

Through 31 La Liga appearances this season, Vela has 13 goals and 11 assists.

Vela is one of only five players in the league to reach double figures in both categories, joined by Lionel Messi, Ivan Rakitic, Alexis Sanchez and Gareth Bale.
