Cavani scored from the spot in the 55th minute but was then sent off after picking up one yellow card for his celebration and another for grabbing the referees arm while protesting the first yellow card during PSG's 3-1 win over Lens on Friday.

Cavani got the spot kick after drawing the foul in the box, but his celebration in front of the Lens supporters was apparently bad enough to warrant a yellow card. The goal was his fourth in 10 league appearances this season, but he'll have to sit out before trying to begin a goal streak.

Cavani scored in the 28th minute of Paris Saint-Germain's 1-1 Champions League draw with Ajax on Wednesday.

Cavani is off to a decent start this season, as he now has three goals in six club matches in all competitions, with two coming during Ligue 1 play. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic fit again, Cavani will have the benefit of having defenders worry about the Swedish striker, which should open up more space.

Cavani scored in the 57th minute of PSG's 2-0 win over Bastia on Saturday.

With strike-partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffering a back injury just 16 minutes into Saturday's match, Cavani will surely have to shoulder a bigger scoring loan if the Swede is forced to miss any time. Cavani has been linked to a number of clubs this summer, but if Ibrahimovic is sidelined for awhile, PSG may not be able to afford losing Cavani's production.

Cavani took five shots, with one on goal, during Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 opener against Reims on Friday.

Cavani had a shot saved in the 77th minute and then barely missed a header in stoppage time that could have given PSG the victory. The Uruguayan striker has been heavily linked to Liverpool of late, as well as a number of different clubs this summer, but as of now, he'll stay in Paris and be one of the finer fantasy forwards in Ligue 1.

Cavani scored from the penalty spot in the 24th minute of Uruguay's shocking 1-3 loss to Costa Rica in their World Cup opener on Saturday.

With Liverpool striker Luis Suarez unable to go due to a knee injury, Cavani was responsible for leading the attack Saturday. Unfortunately, he couldn't get nearly enough going and the Uruguayans were shocked off the field. Suarez is expected to return Thursday against England, a match Cavani will have to step up in if Uruguay want to get back into contention to advance out of the group stage.

Cavani registered 16 goals and two assists in 30 appearances during his debut Ligue 1 campaign at Paris Saint-Germain this season.

Cavani made a lucrative switch from Serie A side Napoli to Paris last summer, pairing with new teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic to form one of Europe's most potent striking duos. Although he was often deployed on the right side of PSG's front-line, Cavani still finished the season tied for Ligue 1's second-highest goal scoring total, only behind Ibrahimovic's 26 scores. Nonetheless, Cavani is most effective as a center forward, so the presence of Ibrahimovic at PSG could inspire transfer bids from abroad for Cavani's services this summer. In any event, the Uruguayan is undoubtedly one of the world's best strikers and should score plenty of goals no matter where he lines up next season.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

A potential move by Cavani to Manchester United depends on the ability of the English team to secure a spot in the Champions League next season, according to the Daily Mail.

Cavani appears to be a prospect for manager David Moyes as he attempts to rebuild United. However, Cavani is interested in maintaining his status as one of Europe's top players, and that requires regular action in the Champions League, which United may not be able to offer next season.

Cavani, who missed the past month with a thigh injury, came on as a second-half substitute and scored in PSG's 2-0 win over Marseille on Sunday.

Cavani was introduced at the 70-minute mark and scored soon after to clinch Sunday's victory for PSG. The Uruguayan now has 14 goals in 22 total appearances during his debut Ligue 1 season. Expect Cavani to reclaim his starting spot soon, at which point he and teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic figure to torment opposing defenses together once again.
