Samaras took to the field for the first time as a West Brom player after coming off the bench in Saturday’s 2-0 loss to West Brom.

The Greek international forward replaced Brown Ideye as a 70th minute substitute and had one chance that was well saved by visiting ‘keeper Tim Howard. Fantasy managers can expect Irvine to start using Samaras sooner rather than later given that West Brom have scored just two goals in the opening four Premier League games of the season.

Samaras (match fitness) played 45 minutes for Greece during the international break and is fit enough to make the squad for Saturday’s game against Everton, reports the official club website.

Samaras was taken off at half time of his country’s 1-0 qualifying defeat at home to Romania and manager Alan Irvine is happy enough with the fitness of the new signing to give him the go ahead to be included in the squad for the first time. Samaras brings a different dimension to West Brom’s attacking play and fantasy managers can expect a half dozen goals and a smattering of assists if given a run in the team.

Samaras isn’t fit enough to play for his new club until after the upcoming international break, manager Alan Irvine told the Birmingham Mail.

Samaras is being held back from first-team action due to a lack of match fitness that stemmed from an absence of preseason action after his appearances at the World Cup for Greece. Samaras won’t return until West Brom’s next home match with Everton on Sept. 13, at the earliest. Once fit he should provide interesting fantasy potential given his hard work ethic and ability to pop up with the odd vital goal.

Samaras signed a two-year-deal with West Bromwich Albion after passing a medical on Friday, reports the official club website.

Samaras scored seven goals in 19 league games last season for Celtic and won’t be available to manager Alan Irvine for this Saturday’s clash with Southampton at St Mary’s. The versatile forward spent three seasons in the Premier League at Manchester City from 2005 to 2008 and fantasy owners wanting to take a gamble can expect small boosts in the goal and assist columns – when he plays.

Samaras will sign a three-year-deal with West Bromwich Albion on Friday subject to a successful medical, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Free-agent Samaras rejected an offer from Southampton and manager Alan Irvine considers it a significant coup to get his man. The Greece international plays as a centre forward or winger and Irvine will want to assess his fitness before inserting him into the match-day squad.

Samaras has discussed personal terms with West Bromwich Albion about a potential move to the West Midlands, according to the Birmingham Mail.

Samaras' contract at Celtic expired in the summer and the forward would prefer to stay in the UK. He can play as a winger or a target man and would add another option for the Baggies going forward. Malaga have also spoken to Samaras and it's a straight choice between the two clubs.

Samaras was one of nine players who were named early to the Greek World Cup squad by manager Otto Rehhagel, WorldCupBlog.org reports.

Samaras and Robbie Keane made up quite a nice duo for Celtic. Samaras and Theofanis Gekas should be one of the more formidable strike forces in Group B, which has Argentina, Nigeria and South Korea in it as well.
