Drmic played 74 minutes for Switzerland on Thursday as they fell to a surprise 1-0 defeat to Slovenia in European Championship Qualifying Group E.

Drmic started in attack for Switzerland alongside Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hans Seferovic, but together were guilty of missing numerous chances for the visitors. With Slovenian goalkeeper Samir Handanovic in fine form, Switzerland had 19 shots but were thwarted time and time again. The wasteful display led to Drmic being replaced by fellow Bundesliga star Admir Mehmedi after 74 minutes as Drmic continued his barren start (one goal in twelve games in all competitions) to the season.

Drmic came on as a late 76th minute substitute but had no impact on the match as Bayer Leverkusen beat Benfica 3-1 Wednesday in Champions League Group C.

The summer signing from Nürnberg replaced Stefan Kiessling late in the game but affected the game little. He didn't manage to have a shot or produce any real creative play but in truth it mattered little with Leverkusen already in a comanding 3-1 lead. Drmic has been restricted to substitute appearances of late and will be eager to force his way into first team action to try and replicate last season's 17 goal haul.

Drmic scored in the 29th minute of Bayer Leverkusen's 4-1 loss to VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday, his first goal of the season.

Drmic scored in his first start for Leverkusen and after netting 17 times last season for FC Nurnberg, he's likely to get plenty more if he can get more playing time.

Drmic has been linked with a transfer to Arsenal at the end of this season, ESPN FC reports.

Drmic, a 21-year-old striker, has notched 16 goals and three assists during his debut Bundesliga campaign. However, with Nurnberg battling relegation, Drmic may be allowed to join a bigger club this summer and Arsenal is reported to be discussing a move with the player. The Gunners are in need of depth behind Olivier Giroud up front and only Bayern Munich's Mario Mandzukic has scored more goals than Drmic in Germany this season.
