Johannsson provided an assist and put both of his shots on target in Saturday's 4-1 loss against Borussia Monchengladbach. He also was shown a straight red card for dissent and will miss the next two matches in addition to paying a fine.

Johannsson provided the assist to Serge Gnabry in Werder Bremen's only goal of the day. Unfortunately, he was shown red for yelling at the referee and is banned for the next two matches. With fellow forwards Max Kruse and Claudio Pizarro sidelined, there really aren't any promising attacking options on Werder Bremen worth fantasy consideration at the moment.

Johannsson scored a penalty goal from his only shot on target and played two key passes in Sunday's 2-1 loss to FC Augsburg.

Johannsson's penalty goal came late in the first half and was Werder Bremen's only shot on target of the day. This didn't stop him from being substituted off at the 68th minute as manager Viktor Skripnik sought to retake the lead with some fresh legs. Johannsson and the rest of the Werder attack aren't potent enough to warrant much fantasy consideration at the moment. Werder Bremen face Gladbach next Saturday.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johannsson is in the starting XI to face Bayern Munich on Friday.

With Claudio Pizarro and Max Kruse both sidelined, Johannsson earns the start up front. The American international hasn't played in a Bundesliga match since September 2015 due to a hip injury and will be facing the league's best defense, so he is a risky fantasy play at best.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johannsson officially signed a four-year contract with Werder Bremen on Wednesday after transferring from AZ Alkmaar.

Johannsson was a solid contributor last season, scoring nine goals and assisting on three others in 21 appearances, though he had 17 goals and seven assists the year before. The American international will find the Bundesliga much tougher than the Eredivisie, but he's got plenty of potential around goal.

Johannsson had successful ankle surgery Tuesday, which included having a piece of bone removed from the ankle, AZ Alkmaar announced.

Johannsson is expected to be limited for a few weeks, but should be fit early in the Eredivisie season.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johannsson is set to undergo ankle surgery and he will miss at least six-to-eight weeks, AZ Alkmaar announced Friday.

Johannsson, who scored 26 goals for AZ last season, came on for Jozy Altidore in the United States' opening game at the World Cup, but did not play again in Brazil. Given the timeframe for his recovery from surgery, he could be limited at the beginning of the Eredivisie season.
