Beckham announced Thursday that he is retiring from soccer, the Daily Mail reports.

Beckham finishes his career as a member of a Paris Saint-Germain team that won the Ligue 1 title and made the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. His storied career began with Manchester United twenty years ago before moving onto Real Madrid, the Los Angeles Galaxy and two loan spells with AC Milan before his time in Paris. While his fantasy relevance has been dwarfed in comparison to his popularity in recent years, the announcement of his retirement is still a bit surprising despite his 38 years of age. He has won numerous trophies over his career, including Premier League titles in 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003, a Champions League title in 1999, the La Liga crown in 2007, MLS Cups in 2011 and 2012 and finally the Ligue 1 championship this season.

Beckham was handed a one game suspension for his antics against San Jose last weekend.

Whether he meant to kick the ball at the injured player or the referee, it does not matter. It's an incredibly light suspension for the starlet of Major League Soccer.

Beckham broke a six-game scoreless string with his third of the season in a wild 4-3 loss to San Jose on Saturday night.

Becks has still been his terrific self on set pieces for the Galaxy, and although it's not his game to be a prolific scorer any more, pressure was building for him to get back on the scoresheet.

Beckham scored perhaps his most beautiful goal since coming to America, sealing Saturday's 3-1 win over Portland.

Becks touch what looked like a heavy touch in space, but from 25 yards out he ran onto it, and his second touch was an astounding laser beam that rose into the upper corner roof of the goal.

The Beckham Experiment has worked for MLS and the Galaxy especially considering Los Angeles was able to win the MLS Cup for the first time in Beckham's stay. It'll be interesting to see if more foreign players make the move to the MLS like Beckham, Thierry Henry, and Rafa Marquez.
