Scarpetta was released by the Brewers on Monday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Scarpetta was formerly a highly-regarded pitching prospect in the Brewers' farm system. After Tommy John surgery knocked out his 2012 season, he struggled in 12 games with High-A Brevard County, to the tune of a 0-5 record and 7.15 ERA. He will try to catch on with another organization to restart his career.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2012
2011
2010
2009
Scarpetta spent all season at Double-A Huntsville where he had a 3.85 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 117 innings. He also allowed 61 walks, which is something that's hounded him for his entire career. Scouts love Scarpetta for his size and his plus-curveball. Being able to command his stuff has been the only thing holding him back. The Brewers will likely bump him up to Triple-A Nashville for the 2012 season and hope that he can improve a walk rate that has never shown any signs of improvement.
Scarpetta continued to prove to be one of Milwaukee's better pitching prospects with a 3.87 ERA for High-A Brevard County last season. On the plus side, he had a 10.0 K/9IP and 0.28 HR/9IP as a starter. On the bad side was his 4.7 BB/9IP. He may have the best curveball in the system, but he'll need to find his control to attain his potential. Scarpetta will likely start 2011 at Double-A Huntsville.
Scarpetta took a big step forward in 2009 with a very good season at Low-A Wisconsin. He had an impressive 9.9 K/9IP and allowed just five home runs in 105 innings. As with most young pitchers, Scarpetta needs to work on his command before being considered a top prospect, but he has all of the tools to succeed. He should start 2010 with High-A Brevard County and could get a quick promotion to Double-A Huntsville if he pitches well.
Scarpetta made a strong pro debut in 2008 by striking out 58 batters in 36.1 innings between the Arizona Rookie League and the Pioneer League. He went on to strike out 18 in 12.1 innings in the Hawaiian Winter League. The 20-year-old does need to get a tad better with his command, but it looks like he has a promising future. The Brewers may start him out at Low-A in 2009.
