2024 Fantasy Outlook
The veteran outfielder broke out of his two-year funk in 2023, finishing with a .278/.370/.447 slash line to go along with 19 homers, 28 steals (31 attempts) and 78 RBI in 144 games. It's a far cry from the MVP-level production Yelich posted during his first two years in Milwaukee, but it's still a marked improvement on his .737 OPS from the previous two seasons. A .342 BABIP was backed up by an xBA of .277 and xSLG of .450, which indicates his 2023 results should be sustainable. Yelich's chronic back issues continue to linger and cost him nearly two weeks in September, but he's still played in all but 26 games over the last two years. That MVP form is likely long gone as he enters his age-32 campaign, but Yelich will still have plenty of fantasy value with a decent chance at a 20-20 campaign in 2024. Read Past Outlooks
Making spring debut over weekend
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said he expects Yelich to make his Cactus League debut at some point this weekend, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Extended plate appearances aren't as beneficial in spring training for an established veteran like Yelich compared to a younger player looking to secure an Opening Day roster spot, so the two-time All-Star has instead spent the early part of camp taking part in live batting practice and simulated games to ready himself for the upcoming season. After three consecutive seasons with a sub-.800 OPS, Yelich enjoyed something of a bounce-back campaign in 2023, slashing .278/.370/.447 with 19 home runs and 28 stolen bases across 144 games. Most of Yelich's underlying numbers supported the jump in his batting average and power production, so fantasy players can probably target the 32-year-old outfielder with a greater degree of confidence in fantasy drafts compared to the past couple of years. Even though Murphy is now serving as the Brewers' skipper due to Craig Counsell moving on to the Cubs, Yelich is still expected to occupy his familiar perch atop the order in 2024.

Yelich repeated his 2021 campaign, but with more steals. Unfortunately, this includes a second season reverting to the days we all wondered what Yelich could do if he put more batted balls in the air. Had we not seen what he could do in 2019, the current version may be more accepted as a decent player with a wRC+ north of 100 every season of his career. Yelich's HardHit% was 90th percentile, fueled by an 89th percentile average exit velocity. However, a 58.6% groundball rate again capped power. As mentioned, Yelich ran more, swiping 19 bags in 22 tries. Yelich has already demonstrated he can hit more balls in the air, but that was on the other side of 30 years old and before he battled back injuries. Sure, it can happen again, but the likelier outcome is a few more seasons at the current level, with the flicker of hope more fly balls manifest. A healthy 2022 campaign does keep the candle burning.
