Past Fantasy Outlooks

2012
Molina may be most famous for being the return package in the Sergio Santos deal, but his career has stalled in his two full seasons in the White Sox's organization. He could not get past Double-A in 2013, and injuries limited him to 39.1 (mostly relief) innings. He remains somewhat stingy with the walks, but his pitches in the strike zone typically result in hits. He will need to improve upon his secondary pitches if he wants to become anything more than a back-end starter or mop-up reliever in the majors (if he ever gets there). Barring a strong spring, he should spend much of 2013 at Triple-A Charlotte.
Molina's numbers between High-A Dunedin and Double-A Hampshire were outstanding, as he posted a 33:2 K:BB in 22 innings at his final stop in 2011. In addition to missing bats and limiting the free passes, Molina gets a significant number of his outs on the ground as well. Considering that 2011 was just Molina's third season as a pitcher, there may be more growth potential here as he continues to hone his craft. The White Sox acquired him for closer Sergio Santos in December, and it's reasonable to think that Molina could become part of their rotation as early as 2013.
