RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird anticipates playing again in 2018.

Bird and the Storm were knocked out of the playoffs, but she quickly put to rest any questions about her potentially retiring after the season. The 36-year-old averaged 10.6 points, 6.6 assists and two rebounds per contest in 2017, but rested here and there to preserve her body. She would likely continue down a similar path in 2018, assuming she does return as planned.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird (rest) will return to the starting lineup for Wednesday's playoff opener against the Mercury.

Bird was held out of the season finale in order to give her as much rest as possible for the team's upcoming playoff run. As expected, she'll re-enter the top unit for Wednesday's playoff opener and should see her usual workload. Bird has averaged 10.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.2 steals across 30.0 minutes so far this season and she should be heavily relied upon for her experience as a 15-year WNBA veteran. Alysha Clark is also returning to the starting five, which should send Noelle Quinn and Koleena Mosqueda-Lewis back to the bench.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird will sit out Sunday's regular season finale against the Sky for rest.

With the Storm already locked in to a playoff berth, they'll elect to rest Bird with the hope of keeping her as fresh as possible for a playoff run. That said, the 36-year-old point guard is in no danger of missing any playoff action and she should be ready for Wednesday's opener against either the Mystics or Mercury. With Alysha Clark also out for rest, look for Noelle Quinn and Koleena Mosqueda-Lewis to enter the starting five.

August 18, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird (knee) will return to the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Stars.

Bird was held out of Wednesday's game against the Lynx with left knee soreness, but it was never expected to be anything serious and she's officially back in the lineup Friday. Look for her to take on her usual workload and with season averages of 10.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.0 steal across 30.1 minutes, Bird will be a viable DFS option for Friday's matchup.

August 16, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird is dealing with left knee soreness and has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Lynx.

It sounds like just a minor ailment for Bird, though she's now being listed as day-to-day moving forward. Noelle Quinn is expected to jump into the starting lineup in her place, while players like Jewell Loyd and Breanna Stewart will likely take on a bigger responsibility offensively. Bird's next opportunity to see the floor will be Friday against the Stars.

August 9, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird finished with 14 points (6-14 FG, 2-7 3Pt), a season-high seven rebounds and four assists across 30 minutes during Tuesday's 84-71 loss to the Sun.

Bird had been ice cold over the previous three contests, totaling 16 points on 5-of-28 (17.9 percent) shooting, but bounced back with a solid 14-point effort Tuesday. She also managed to grab a season-high seven rebounds -- a surprise considering she averages just 2.0 per game. Overall, those who took a chance on Bird in DFS despite her struggles were rewarded by an impressive overall performance from the veteran.

August 7, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird recorded four points (1-9 FG, 0-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, six assists and two steals across 35 minutes in Saturday's loss to the Stars.

Bird has hit a touch offensive stretch, as she has now shot 0-of-10 from three-point range and 2-of-16 from the field overall in her last two contests for a combined six points. Fortunately for the veteran, she still has recorded at least five assists in each of her last eight contests to make up for her scoring struggles and to keep her DFS floor fairly stable.

August 5, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird finished with two points (1-7 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 0-1 FT), seven assists and one steal across 22 minutes during Friday's 93-80 loss to the Wings.

While Bird is far from an elite scorer, two points is far from the 10.5 per game we're accustomed to seeing from her. She still provided a solid seven assists, however, saving the performance from being a complete dud. Subpar game aside, Bird still ranks third in assists per contest (6.7), making her a legitimate DFS option every time the Storm roll the ball out.

July 24, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird, at the All-Star break, is averaging 10.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 6.9 assists across 30.2 minutes per game.

Bird continues to be a consistent passer, ranking third in the WNBA in assists. The guard is inconsistent in the scoring column, however she does have the ability to register numbers in the double figures more often than not. She has potential to be considered a solid fantasy candidate, especially if her shot is on.

July 19, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird recorded 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-3 3Pt), nine assists, two steals and a season-high six turnovers across 32 minutes during Tuesday's 94-83 loss to the Sky.

Bird continues to be one of the best passers in the league, her 6.9 assists per game tying her for first place on the top of the leaderboard with Layshia Clarendon. At first glance, Tuesday was largely a typical day for Bird. But, she ended up with a painful season-high six turnovers, ultimately dampening her fantasy impact. That said, this is likely an outlier game for Bird, and she can probably be deployed in DFS without much worry.

July 16, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird had 12 points (5-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt), seven assists and two turnovers across 28 minutes during Saturday's 84-90 win over the Dream.

Bird largely took a backseat offensively Saturday with Breanna Stewart and Crystal Langhorne dominating on that side of the ball, but that still didn't stop her from reaching double figures for the third game in a row. Being the team's top distributor continues to be Bird's main calling card and her seven assists Saturday were right on par with her season average of 6.8 per game. Bird's inconsistent numbers in the scoring column bring some risk to her value as a fantasy option, but her double-double potential still brings plenty of upside.

July 13, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird registered 15 points (5-10 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds and seven assists across 30 minutes in Wednesday's contest against the Sun.

This is Bird's second game scoring in double figures, as she's just coming off a two-point outing, going 1-of-8 from the field against the Liberty. Bird isn't much of a scorer, however she makes up for it in assists, averaging 6.8 assists per tilt. Currently, the veteran is posting 10.8 points and 2.0 rebounds across 30.2 minutes per contest.

July 10, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird posted 15 points (6-7 FG, 3-4 3Pt), two rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block across 30 minutes in Saturday's victory over the Sparks.

It was a very efficient outing for Bird on Saturday after she struggled in the team's loss Thursday to the Liberty, as she went 1-of-8 from the field and had just two points. Bird' assist numbers have been down recently, as she's totaled just six dimes in her last two games, but with her 6.7 assist per game average this season, expect her numbers to rise again shortly.

July 3, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird recorded 12 points (5-8 FG, 2-3 3Pt), three rebounds, eight assists, one steal and three turnovers across 32 minutes during Saturday's 89-69 victory over the Wings.

Bird shot the ball well Saturday, which allowed her to score in double figures for the third time over the last four games. However, she's typically known more for her assist totals and the eight she dished out against the Wings on Saturday brought her season average up to 7.3 per game, which is the best mark in the entire WNBA. While it'd be nice if Bird was a more consistent scorer, she tends to have a fairly safe floor due to her assist numbers.

June 19, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird recorded five points, one rebound, nine assists and one steal across 25 minutes in Sunday's win over the Stars.

With Sunday's game turning into a blowout, Bird didn't end up seeing her regular dosage of 30-plus minutes, but the veteran did still manage to dish out nine assists. That gives Bird six games this season where she has recorded at least eight assists. Sunday's performance did, however, end the point guard's streak of four games with double-digit points, but nevertheless, Bird remains a fairly reliable DFS with a limited ceiling but high floor.

June 14, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird tallied 12 points (5-10 FG, 2-7 3Pt), four rebounds, three assists, four steals and three turnovers across 37 minutes during Tuesday's 91-86 loss to the Dream.

Bird continues to take on a bigger role offensively for the Storm of late, taking 10 or more shot attempts in four straight games. That's led her to four straight double-digit performances in the scoring column, which has given her a nice boost in value, as she's already proven to be a solid all-around contributor. While she only came up with a season-low three assists Tuesday, Bird is normally a much better distributor, so it wouldn't be surprising if she was closer to her season average of 7.5 assists in the Storm's next outing.

June 11, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird posted 21 points (8-11 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 1-1 FT), two rebounds, 10 assists and one steal across 36 minutes in Sunday's loss to the Liberty.

It was an unbelievably hot shooting night for the veteran, who has struggled to get much going this season in regards to scoring the basketball. The 21 points was by far Bird's season-high and her 10 assists matched her best since the season opener. Bird, however, has never been seen as much of a scorer, so while Sunday's performance was exceptional, expectations for her work in the scoring column should remain tempered moving forward, as she is still averaging just 8.8 points per game this season.

June 7, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird posted 10 points (3-10 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT), two rebounds, nine assists and two turnovers across 30 minutes during Tuesday's 85-76 win over the Stars.

Bird found herself in double figures in the scoring column for the first time this season, despite shooting just 30 percent from the field. Even by taking on a bigger role offensively, she was still able to get her teammates involved at a high rate, tallying nine assists and coming just short of a double-double. Bird's main calling card is as a ball-handler, so her assist numbers will likely remain relatively high. However, her fantasy value could see an increase if Bird becomes a more consistent threat on offense.

June 5, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird notched eight points (2-7 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three rebounds, nine assists, one steal, one block and two turnovers across 28 minutes during Saturday's 100-77 loss to the Lynx.

Bird struggled with her shot Saturday, shooting just 28 percent from the field and missing all four of her three-point attempts. However, she continues to get her teammates involved at a high rate, with her nine assists on Saturday bringing her season average up to 8.3 per game. Bird should continue to be a great source for assists and could even see an uptick in value if she's able to take on a larger role offensively.

May 30, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird contributed six points (3-9 FG, 0-3 3Pt), eight assists, three steals and two rebounds across 26 minutes during Sunday's 94-70 victory over the Fever.

Bird's passing has been precise this season, as she's averaging 8.0 assists while giving away just 1.0 turnover per game. She's also chipping in 8.0 points and 1.3 steals per contest. While her numbers may not be the flashiest, her ability to take care of the rock while dropping dimes and racking up steals makes her a relevant fantasy option on any given night.

May 22, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird posted nine points (4-9 FG, 1-4 3Pt), 10 assists and one rebound across 30 minutes in Sunday's victory over the Mystics.

It was Bird's first game of the 2017 after she was held out of the first two contests with a knee injury, and there were no signs of rust from 14-year WNBA veteran. While the 10 assists she recorded Sunday is likely not a sustainable mark for Bird, she has averaged at least 5.0 per game in 10 of her 14 seasons as a pro. So, as long as Bird stays healthy, she should be in for another season of scoring double-digit points and dishing out plenty of assists.

May 21, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird (knee) will play and start in Sunday's game against the Mystics.

Bird missed the first two games of the regular season with the knee injury, but it was more precautionary with the team opening on a back-to-back set. Now, with an extra week to recover, the veteran point guard is ready to make her debut in her 14th WNBA season. Bird is coming off a 2016 campaign where she averaged 12.8 points and 5.8 assists across 32 minutes per game.

May 14, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Fever, Percy Allen of the Seattle Times reports.

This will be the second straight game to start the season that Bird will miss with the knee injury, as it appears the Storm are remaining cautious with the veteran point guard. With the team having a week off following Sunday's contest, Bird will have plenty of time to rest and rehab the knee. She should still be considered questionable moving forward until another update is provided.

Bird (knee) will not be cleared to play in Saturday's season opener versus the Sparks, HoopsFeed.com reports.

Bird sat out the entirety of the team's preseason schedule while recovering from a knee injury. The 36-year-old veteran underwent her fifth procedure on the same knee, which causes concern for her durability heading into the season. Expect the team to exercise caution, and not bring her back until she has fully recovered in order to avoid a lingering issue. Bird's status for Sunday's matchup against the Fever is unknown at this time.

Bird (knee) was held out of Wednesday's exhibition opener against Phoenix and remains without a timetable for a return, Percy Allen of the Seattle Times reports. "My knee is doing well," Bird said. "I just have to do the rehab and take it step by step. I started to do more contact stuff. I've been on the court now for probably a week. Just progressing the way I need to be. I don't really have a timetable (on a return). It's just kind of how I feel."

Bird is expected to sit out the entirety of the preseason schedule, but hasn't ruled out the potential of a return for the team's regular-season opener on May 13. She'll continue to rehab over the next few weeks, with another status update likely coming once she's able to take part in a full practice. The 36-year-old veteran remains the oldest active player in the NBA, so the fact that Bird has now had five procedures on the same knee is concerning for her durability during the upcoming season. Jennifer O'Neill started in place of Bird during Wednesday's contest, but it remains to be seen if she'll pick up a second consecutive start for Sunday's preseason finale.

Bird has been limited in training camp after getting her left knee scoped in early-April, the Seattle Times reports.

Bird, 36, is the oldest active player in the WNBA, and it looks like some of the wear and tear is starting to catch up with her. She spent her third straight offseason in Seattle instead of playing overseas, but it wasn't enough to prevent left knee discomfort from surfacing. Following an MRI that revealed multiple loose bodies, it was determined that a scope was necessary, and Bird is now without a timetable for a return. Given that this is the fifth career procedure Bird has had on this knee -- everything from ACL to microfracture surgery -- look for the Storm to take it easy with their veteran leader. Bird has averaged double-digit scoring in each of her 14 WNBA seasons, and saw a three-year high in 2016 with a 12.8 PPG average over 34 games. The Storm open up exhibition play May 3, with their regular season opener landing on May 13.
