Yahoo DFS Baseball: Friday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Friday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Jameson Taillon, PIT vs. MIL ($38): The Brewers have held their own at Miller Park this season, but Taillon will have the advantage in his home ballpark, as The Crew are a bottom-10 team on the road, according to wOBA. It should also be noted that Taillon keeps the ball on the ground at a 54 percent clip while Milwaukee hits the sixth-fewest fly balls in the league by percentage.

Kyle Gibson, MIN vs. CHI ($25): Gibson hasn't had much to write home about since his complete game against the Braves in mid-August, but the 28-year-old matches up well with the White Sox, who are a bottom-10 team on the road, according to wOBA. Chicago is tied for the ninth-lowest fly ball percentage in the league, which should allow Gibson to take a significant advantage due to his ground ball profile.

CATCHER

Welington Castillo, ARI at COL ($20):Jorge De La Rosa is widely regarded as someone who can handle pitching at Coors Field, but he has struggled at home this year, allowing 11 home runs over 56.2 innings. Castillo seems like a perfect fit for the matchup, as he is sporting an ISO approaching .300 over 94 at-bats against southpaws.

FIRST BASE

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI at COL ($26): Goldschmidt may not have the raw power of his teammate, but what he lacks in ISO he makes up for in overall performance. Goldschmidt will enter the contest against De La Rosa holding a .337/.485/.584 slash line against lefties over 101 at-bats.

SECOND BASE

DJ LeMahieu, COL vs. ARI ($23): LeMahieu will look to score points from the other dugout when he takes on southpaw Robbie Ray, who has been a tremendous source of strikeouts for fantasy owners but has had a bit of trouble keeping the ball in the park against righties, as evidenced by his 1.4 HR/9 mark against them over 106 innings. LeMahieu has hit all pitchers well this year, but he has shown real power against lefties, having notched a .190 ISO to go along with his .420 wOBA.

THIRD BASE

Evan Longoria, TB vs. TOR ($19): Longoria recently joined Chris Carter and Todd Frazier in a three-way tie for the league's highest fly ball percentage. This should give him a sizable edge over Marcus Stroman, who throws more ground balls by percentage than any other starter by a wide margin.

SHORTSTOP

Marcus Semien, OAK vs. BOS ($12):David Price can be a tough customer on the mound, but he has still allowed a 37 percent hard contact rate against right-handed hitters. Semien becomes worthy of consideration any time a lefty takes the hill, as he has tallied a .294 ISO against his opposite hand over 119 at-bats.

OUTFIELD

Michael Saunders, TOR at TB ($9): It seems only right that we take a shot at Alex Cobb, who has not pitched in a major league game since 2014, and logged an ERA over 6.50 across eight rehab starts. Saunders has kept consistent power numbers regardless of the venue, as he has a .254 ISO on the road.

Franklin Gutierrez, SEA vs. LAA ($11):Brett Oberholtzer has been knocked around by opposing hitters all season, allowing 14 homers over 59.1 innings. Gutierrez has been a lefty specialist in 2016, amassing a .230 ISO against his opposite hand over 73 games.

Odubel Herrera, PHI vs. ATL ($12):Joel De La Cruz's peripherals don't exactly inspire confidence, as he combines mediocre walk and strikeout rates with a HR/9 rate of 1.50 over 48.1 innings. Herrera has performed well against righties this season, notching a .354 wOBA in 124 games.

Other options: Miguel Sano, MIN vs. CWS ($15); Mark Trumbo, BAL vs. NYY ($16); Rickie Weeks Jr., ARI at COL ($14)
