DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Kyle Hendricks, CHC vs. MIL ($12,900): Hendricks' ERA is down to 2.03 after nearly pitching a no-hitter against the Cardinals his last time out. He's scored between 23.3 and 32.2 fantasy points in seven of his last eight starts, and he has been especially dominant at home, allowing a paltry .195 batting average and .227 wOBA. His strikeout upside is high too, as the Brewers have also struck out at a 25.4 percent rate against right-handed pitching this year.

Robbie Ray, ARI vs. LAD ($8,600): The Dodgers have a .274 wOBA, .119 ISO and 22.5 percent strikeout rate versus left-handed pitching this season, while Ray shut this same squad down with 12 strikeouts over six innings on Sept. 7, an effort that netted 27.9 fantasy points. Ray also boasts an impressive 11.34 K/9 and has already shown an upside of over 40 fantasy points this season.

CATCHER

Jonathan Lucroy, TEX vs. OAK ($4,800): A's starter Ross Detwiler has given up a .382 wOBA and 5.25 xFIP on the road to right-handed hitters, along with a .386 wOBA in his last two starts. Meanwhile, Lucroy sports a .335 wOBA against southpaws, and has a .302 batting average, .368 wOBA, .233 ISO and three homers over his last 11 games.

FIRST BASE

Edwin Encarnacion, TOR at LAA ($4,900): Encarnacion has 32 home runs this season against right-handed pitching, and he also sports a .379 wOBA, .280 ISO and 37.5 percent hard contact rate against that handedness. Angels starter Alex Meyer has yielded a .389 wOBA to right-handed hitters, and an absurd .548 figure over a very limited sample when facing them at home. Notably, Meyer has also given up a robust 41.2 percent fly ball rate to righty bats, while Encarnacion counters with a 41.9 percent fly ball rate against right-handed pitching, along with a 22.2 percent HR/FB rate.

SECOND BASE

Trea Turner, WAS at ATL ($5,600): Turner smacked another pair of homers Saturday, netting over 40 fantasy points for the second straight game. While Braves starter Matt Wisler has been tough on right-handed hitters this season, Turner has an excellent .352 batting average and .407 wOBA against right-handed pitching, and an even better .413 wOBA, along with a 37.3 percent hard contact rate, when facing that handedness on the road. He also has been solid of late, posting a .365 batting average and .424 wOBA over his last 14 games.

THIRD BASE

Evan Longoria, TB at BAL ($5,100): Speaking of hot bats, Longoria has scored over 20 fantasy points in his last three games, with homers in each. He's also posted four consecutive multi-hit efforts, while Orioles starter Wade Miley has given up a .369 wOBA to right-handed hitters, along with 21 homers. Miley has also been going downhill this month, with a mammoth 14.21 ERA and .448 wOBA allowed in his last two starts. Meanwhile, Longoria boasts a .361 wOBA and .281 ISO against southpaws on the road, along with a 40.8 percent hard contact rate.

SHORTSTOP

Troy Tulowitzki, TOR at LAA ($4,800) : Angels starter Alex Meyer's struggles against right-handed hitters make him a viable target for Tulo, who's touched up righties for 19 of his 24 homers on the season, along with a .337 wOBA, .228 ISO and 38.2 percent hard contact rate when facing them away from Rogers Centre.

OUTFIELD

Nick Markakis, ATL vs. WAS ($4,400): Nationals starter Joe Ross could reasonably expect to have some rust after not having faced major league hitting for over two months due to a shoulder injury, and he has allowed a .353 wOBA against lefty hitters that rises to .360 (along with a 5.40 xFIP) when facing them on the road. Markakis has smacked 11 of his 12 homers on the season versus right-handed pitching, and boasts a .342 wOBA against that handedness, along with a 34.1 percent hard contact rate. The veteran outfielder has also been swinging a hot bat, with a .383 wOBA, .241 ISO, three homers and 13 RBI over his last 15 games, including a nine-game hitting streak.

Ian Desmond, TEX vs. OAK ($5,000): Desmond has obliterated southpaws at Globe Life Park this season, tallying a .440 wOBA, .254 ISO, 23.5 percent HR/FB rate and 33.3 percent hard contact rate against that handedness at home. Desmond also has four homers, 10 RBI and an average of 11 fantasy points per game over 14 appearances against A's pitching this season, while A's starter Ross Detwiler's struggles against right-handed hitters were detailed earlier.

Mike Trout, LAA vs. TOR ($5,100): Trout's .320 batting average and 22 homers against right-handed pitching make him an appealing option, and his .440 wOBA and .230 ISO against that handedness at Angels Stadium make an even stronger case. Trout has also posted a 43.2 percent hard contact rate and 21.6 percent HR/FB rate against righties at home, while Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman has given up a .330 wOBA, three homers and a 33.3 percent hard contact rate over the 17 innings covering his last three starts.
